Yeah, they're all guaranteed to get picked up (maybe not TCU); OR... the remnants will remain in the B12 and pluck from wherever they wish (AAC, MWC, etc).

This is my official prediction. Bet against it at your peril.

Those 2 scenarios are literally polar opposites. Seems much more likely to be it’s somewhere in between IMO.

All it takes is one or 2 to get plucked up. Then all bets are off for the others.

Well my foundational position all along has been that the B12 brand will pluck from the AAC and not vice-versa.

            • It's just a really, really selfish move on the part of OU/UT to leave the B12. A small financial gain for destabilizing everything. Can the NCAA veto the SEC's acceptance of the two teams? Do they have that power?

If the NCAA had any power, then KU wouldn't have an atheltic department anymore.

Not selfish at all. They've carried that dreadful conference for years. Why should the other schools be allowed to ride the coattails and money train?

Not to mention the gravy train that is the SEC. By adding those two schools, the SEC will make more money than the rest of the NCAA combined.

This take I 100% agree with. It’s a manifestation of one of the worst parts of our culture.

It’s also a sign of weakness from Texas and OU. They aren’t confident in their ability to lead a conference so they’d rather join a better one where they can be the ones riding coattails.

Texas will be an also ran in the SEC. In the big 12 they still yield immense power regardless of their on field/court production (which hasn’t lived up to their opinion of themselves in quite some time).

Same with OU except they are set up to compete better in football from day 1. IMO they obviously won’t dominate the conference and I think it’s highly unlikely they finish at the top very often.

Do either of these schools really need the additional money? I find that hard to believe.

That sounds like a monopoly to me.

Like it or not, and a lot don't, the Supreme Court proved who has the final authority a few months ago in matters involving the NCAA. They basically shot down amateur status, in this New Normal world we live in. If they do bolt there's nothing the b12 board can do.

                              • Athletic success/prowess/participation/whatever is a massive source of charitable giving for a university, just look at WSU after the F4. It is no accident that some of the best colleges in America are tucked safely inside a "premiere" athletic conference. If one conference towers in strength over all others, it destabilizes the competitive equilibrium thus threatening the future stability of all the unincluded academic institutions.

This might be an issue for Congress to consider. Let's hope cooler, less greedier heads prevail.
