The Shia vs. Sunni Muslim split has been a problem for a long time. Trump is the first to use this split to bring balance to the Middle East. Iran and Iraq have Shia majorities while Saudi Arabia has Sunni majorities. Almost all of the Middle Eastern states have both, with majorities in one camp or the other, but the main idea is that they don't trust or agree with each other. Obama and Biden (and Europe) have tended to side with Iran, and Trump policies, for the first time, went against Iran. Iran uses their money and policies to lift up the Palestinians with no thought to peace. They like the strife and the economic instability, the infighting provides. By hamstringing Iran, IMO, the Trump policies, actually, the policies were Jared Kushner's ideas, (while not perfect) were providing SOME measures of stability and balance to the region.
