Did he say over-hyped? Probably. He still is, at this point, given he's had one big game and the bazillion posts on his thread. Did he call out those who predicted such numbers of double-doubles, scoring over 20 points, being the career leader in blocked shots are probably unreasonable. Yup. And they may still be. Did he respond time and time and time and time again to counter the hopes of Cold. Yes. Sorry, SHOXMVC, I can't help you there.

However, he never meant EO ill will and said numerous times that he hoped he would have a productive season. He has also been complimentary regarding EO on rare occasions (probably because the occasions warranting to do so have been rare in the past).

Just give it a rest. All of you. This has the makings of a special season and we all hope that EO will be a quality contributor to its success.

ShockTalk - I was just throwing out a general "chain pull" yesterday when I read the Des Moine Register article that quoted one of the Iowa players raving about EO. Even though I never mentioned any names - someone got butt hurt about it and felt obliged to start in on me.

Many, many, many times over the past year or more, I have read about EO being a bust. If anything remotely positive was said about EO you could start the countdown for negative - condescending post. The past week or so - that has changed.

Maybe EO is a bust. I've never jumped on the NBA - All Universe thing with him. I do think it is fun to add to the legend that EO may never be. I don't need someone to pop my baloon. I get what EO is....I don't think any of us know what he can become.

It does take time to develop big men - Garrett had one good year. EO will have one good year. In my opinion - it's worth it to bring in 7' projects because when they do "get it" - no one usually has anything to counter what they bring to the table.

We only play one season at a time. 3G is building....scratch that, has built a system around upperclassmen. For the past two seasons, we graduated 4 or 5 seniors and everyone was saying that we would rebuild. Well guess what - some of those projects are done and ready for full display.

Does anyone see any drop off in the next few years ? Jake White - who I think is a very good player - will be great by the time he is a senior and barely sniffs the court right now.

We are six games in and not one player has been a stud every game. Dwill had a great game against Howard and was a real head scratcher against Iowa. Baker's first game was incredible - he's been struggling offensivily since. No one picks them apart.

I guess what I'm saying is - EO has become one of my all time favorite players. He has reached legendary status on SN. Over hyped ? - maybe - but it's all been in good fun.

I come here for fun - everyday - several times a day. I've thanked Royalshock, Shockband, and Kai repeatedly for setting up this playground. It was never my intent to take the fun out of SN for anyone. I apologize if I did that.

    Go Shox !!!

    • It's comical how people get branded as being anti certain players when a) the player hasn't lived up to the hype this board has given them or b) you offer the opinion that another player may have more upside and start earning the said "player in question" minutes. I mentioned something about Wiggins potential and how eventually he would get more minutes and suddenly I'm anti Wessel. Nothing could be further from the truth. I enjoy some of the banter but when the "I told you so" mentality takes precedence over the joy we should be feeling from starting 6-0, we, as a collective group, have kinda lost our way. It becomes an individual battle of posters assuming pseudo agent status for certain players.

I remember Sub getting berated for saying Joe Mitchell wouldn't be a contributor. He was right, others were wrong, and we have moved on.

I will start the sacrificial rethinking of opinion stage by saying I was concerned about FVV's athleticism after the first few games. I am less concerned after Cancun.

99% of the fans on this board will gladly admit their player assessment was wrong at the end of the year if we keep winning. I know I will.

This is similar to my point of view. Athletics is entertainment and more. I come here and I watch WSU athletics to support our student-athletes and enjoy the show. Success in athletics can help WSU, enhancing enrolment, helping encourage people to donate to WSU and generally "promoting the brand." In addition, I get to know some of these young people who represent the university and they are usually really nice people. I know or have known student-athletes in football, softball, bowling, track & field, baseball, volleyball, etc. and I want to support them. Even in those rare cases where they earn (and receive) poor grades, which must happen, I imagine that they are intelligent people who need to mature a bit more or to learn to study better. (After all, if I could get through college, who couldn't? :D )

        • EO

It's interesting to see what the Iowa Coach said about EO in the Eagle today. I think it was in Paul Suellentrop's article. The Iowa Coach said it was not just the shots EO blocked, but his players knew that he was hanging around the basket and they were always wondering where he was. Check it out.

Include me in the 99%. I don't care if anybody admits to errors and I think it is silly to hold grudges. How about if we start over and evaluate each player fresh, based on how they do this year? We all love the shocks. (Maybe your wife or husband is a (non-athletic) Shocker? :D ) Let's channel our angst at schools that won't play WSU or try to take more than their fair share of state higher education revenue or try to limit WSU's athletic or academic opportunities or ... :p

You get it, congrats...some on this board are thin skinned about the EO situation. Contrary to the thin skins, which now includes proshox, trop & WSUwatcher, my observations have been positive when waranted (which they have been on occasion, especially the Iowa game).

I have said it before, EO is of high character of a student-athlete as there is on campus. We are all proud of the person he seems to be. The production to warrant the hype isn't and never will be there. But when he plays like he did vs. Iowa he sure is fun to watch. My guess is it will happen a few more times, but not even close to every game. Let's enjoy the ride folks.

You know, after digging up a few of DD's comments, I started to feel kind of bad. I had forgotten how negative and bold some of his proclamations were. I think it's safe to say that I can go ahead and procure all the ingredients for his dinner. He has earned his crow in record time. This is embarrassing and I hate doing this to a good Shocker fan, but the comments made regarding E.O. demand a lesson.

                No offense. :(

You've been owned on this site and others because of tunnel vision and not completing the research. You're not important enough in my life to spend that kind of time, effort and energy. I'll give you a homework assignment...the fair balance is out there, you just have to have the integrity to do it. You can spin a one-sided fantasy. Your crush on me is flattering. I don't see you taking posters to task that thought he would play 20 minutes, average a double-double... I'm taken cold...sorry buddy, but thanks for the memories.

                • Playing pressure defense with EO as the goalie is a potential trademark for next year's team.

                    • I'm the first one to say that EO has an important role on this team and deserves to start (although he is often not going to finish because of his poor free throw shooting abilities. Some games he will dominate the middle just like he did vs. Iowa. I also believe that sometimes MVCSHOX has made statements that were over critical. However, I will agree with MVCSHOX that some on this board have also over reached and made grandiose statements that predicted that EO is going to average a double double. This is just not going to happen. He is what he is and will do what he does best. Defend and rebound.

                      • Well, he will be in an NBA camp, and has a better shot at playing there than Paul Miller ever had........or Toure, etc.

                          • WSU looked pretty impressive. Their big guy was like King Kong out there, tossing our guys around and blocking shots. Very impressive player.

These quotes might be lost (i.e. not remain on the first page of SN) in a specific game thread. The EO thread needs to remain on page 1 for the entire year. Maybe we should "sticky it" so all who visit can see the length to which WSU fans can go in support of a particular (unique & interesting) player.

                            Unique Features:
                            7' tall
Had to overcome the corruption in Nigeria to get to WSU
Is said to be very intelligent and a great individual
Might have NBA potential and might get there (... someday ...)
Was behind Durley, Stutz in the lineup until now
Would have started at many MVC schools from day 1 (and would now have better stats)
Seems to be well liked by teammates
                            He is EO!!!

                            • Not to ruin the lovely direction we are currently taking, but is there any word on the ankle situation? I am assuming I will have to wait for the coaches show, but if anyone knows anything, I want to know, too.

I heard that there was a possible sprain and he sure looked in some pain. I hate to face Tulsa without him because last year makes me think he would be destined for a nice game. However, I do think we will win that game with or without him. How long does a sprain keep a guy out? Maybe it will be a good chance to see Hall and Cle start or maybe we will see some good minutes for Lufile.

                              • An ankle sprain coul bother him all year. I remember being told by my doctor in HS that it would take 6 weeks of being completely off of it to fully heal. However, in my case, he just had me not practice for two or three days and then just wear a brace/tape it up the rest of the season. It'll get stronger over time, but it'll still be there for some time.
