Sounds like the Pac-4 will likely be losing their autonomy status regardless of what happens.

At the moment, I think the ACC poses a greater threat to the AAC than the Pac-4 in terms of poaching.
ESPN also has the ACC. Though if they pushed the PAC-4, or even just Cal and Stanford, to join the ACC, it would cost ESPN more than pushing all 4 to the AAC. Even if ESPN maintained the going rate for the ACC, it's significantly more than adding a few million to each school to land them in the AAC.

Though I still say without Stanford and Cal, the AAC shouldn't have any desire to bring in Wazzu and OSU. If the ACC does get Stanford/Cal, the other two will likely be taken in by the MWC or be forced independent, at least in football, and end up in the WAC or Big West.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens and it really all hinges on the ACC and Stanford/Cal.

I think, if Stanford and Cal go to the ACC, the AAC should still try to add Wazzu and OSU. Why? It widens the gap between the AAC and MWC, and gives the AAC a presence within the MWC's footprint, which could entice MWC schools to join the AAC in the future.

        • Is the MW out of play for the remaining 4? Seems hard to believe the PAC4 would prefer the AAC over the MW considering travel.

            Two reasons why they might.

            1. AAC has a better TV package that pays more
            2. Stanford might like being with Rice, Tulane, SMU and some of the other higher education schools as opposed to anything in the MWC. The same reason that SMU and Tulane were constantly being thrown around as possible PAC additions.

Stanford is kinda driving the bus there for them. They are the prize, the others are just tagging along.

            • If it happens, I expect it to hear more about it relatively soon.

The PAC schools will want to sure up instability as quickly as possible.

              • In the new AAC (if the PAC joins) I expect WSU will be in the Eastern division. Seeing as how Navy is on the East coast and would be WSU's "football team" and since football drives everything.

                Divisions would look like:

EAST - Temple, ECU, FAU, Charlotte, USF. UAB, Tulane, Memphis, WSU

WEST - Rice, Tulsa, SMU, UNT, UTSA, WaSU, Stanford, UC-B, OSU

Other Option #1- If they truly went East and West for Olympic sports and keep all the TX schools together, swap Tulas and WSU.
Other Option #2 - If Stanford and Cal have some pull and want to play in the same division as Rice and Tulane, swap Tulane and Tulsa.

This. IMO, the MW tv deal is not good for exposure.

If they were to break things up into E/W, Navy would demand to be in the West. They want more western exposure, especially in Texas.

                              • It will be nice to see Terre Haute again. You know how when you hook up with an old flame? Even if it’s been years, just slide up in there like it was yesterday.

“Mmm, Normal, you lookin’ good girl/boy/they. How long’s it been? 10 years? I’m staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Want to meet up in the lounge for a drink?”
