"The most serious allegations come from former WSU player Shaquille Morris, who told Stadium that Marshall punched him in the head during an October 2015 practice and that he saw Marshall attempt to choke former assistant coach Kyle Lindsted. Five other players from WSU’s 2015-16 team have independently confirmed to The Eagle that Marshall hit Morris, while eight other players from the 2016-17 team have confirmed to The Eagle that Marshall put his hand around Lindsted’s throat."

The 2015-16 team has 6 players that have independently confirmed to The Eagle that Marshall hit Morris
The 2016-17 team has 9 players that have independently confirmed to The Eagle that Marshall put his hand around Lindsted's throat.
This is another "thing": Why is it always "Marshall put his around Lindsted's throat" and not "tried or did choke him"?

In my life I've found anyone who goes to such lengths to boast about how tough and strong they are is actually a little wimp inside crying for attention.

It makes me wish some of you would meet someone younger than you in a dark alley and get your ass absolutely handed to you. Just destroyed. It won't cause you to shut up, but it would make the rest of us smile.
So you are advocating violence which you apparently don't like? I realize you are trying to make a point but it could have been made better.

This actually says a lot about you and who you are. You are part of the problem because u are happy to see the violence when it suits you or is for your entertainment purposes.

That's a good question! That is why HCGM's statement shocked me. I would have thought he would have very carefully said that he never hit/punched a player, and never choked an assistant coach. Those are statements I think could be defensible even if the investigation concluded "something" happened. But it seems very strange to go on record and state these events didn't occur when you already have reports that half the team confirmed they did occur (to some degree).

          • You can deny anything until it is proven otherwise. What is proof?

That pretty much eliminates termination for due cause, and the money guys aren't going to pony up the bucks for a buyout of a guy they support.

The money guys all coming out in support of Marshall makes it a lot harder to use the allegations to renegotiate his contract.

The best thing the AD could do is to say that he was aware of this situation when it happened. It was addressed at that time, and there have been no problems since that situation was handled internally.

The problem with that approach is that Marshall made the absolutely asinine statement that he never laid a hand on a player. Damn, dude, when you're under investigation, you don't go public with anything before the investigation is done. Even if Marshall never laid a hand on Shaq, it seems like 5 guys say he did. Marshall may have damaged the ability to use the old "we handled it internally" thing, which is probably what happened.

Marshall's "I never did it" may give Boatright the ammo he needs to renegotiate Marshall's contract. Going with "we took care of it. It's been handled. It hasn't happened since. Yeah, he's still a tough coach" would minimize damage to recruiting. If Marshall resists that approach by insisting it never happend, and if there's confirmation from the investigation that it did happen, then we're screwed.
              That’s not what he said.

I'm one of those old guys, but it's not about beating our chests or being physically tough guys. It's about mental toughness and how your generation has been taught by my generation to take offense to virtually everything. Abuse these days can be words as well as physical contact in about any form. When we baby boomers were young it was considered teaching.

1 - Marshall's 2015 contract is out there on the web but I couldn't find the 2007 amendment, but ran across a site with it due to a Freedom of Information Act by someone in October 2017. Not sure who the person is who did the request, but looking at his profile he has requested contracts on numerous coaches, including Sean Miller at the same time, and Bruce Weber and some other coaches in March 2018. Anyway, the original contract from 2015 and the amendment from July 2017 can be found at https://www.muckrock.com/foi/kansas-...ontract-44401/ - both are interesting reads if you haven't seen them. For example, section 8.2.2 says any buyout can be paid in equal amounts over 3 years (for example, a $15 million buyout paid out in the form of $5 million per year) and section 8.3 says if Marshall takes another job during the payout period, the payout amount would be reduced by the amount he receives from other employment.

2 - the Wichita Business Journal has some good articles from 2015 regarding the contract and how things worked out. Here's a link to a date range of articles from April to October in 2015 - https://www.bizjournals.com/wichita/...l&pl=1&godate= - the one from April regarding the donor meeting and the one in October on how Marshall gets paid have some good information. I think the Wichita Business Journal lets you read something like some articles for free for a month, so I think you should be able to still read them if you don't have a subscription.
Found the treasure trove of open records requests for Wichita State. It was sitting right there on the wichita.edu web site at https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view-request-log/ It lists the most current requests first and some are pretty interesting. There's a table with basic information and you can click on the link in the Post Title column to see details and in some cases where the person works. Here are some interesting things from it:

Retainer Letter - October 9 - https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/928/ - letter from Tueth Keeney regarding the investigation. Swaim from the Eagle also requested the letter and used it in one of his articles.

Andy Wittry - quite a few requests and looks like he works with ******* at the Stadium - https://watchstadium.com/author/andy-wittry/ His AD/President Emails request led to this tweet - https://twitter.com/AndyWittry/statu...99676483653632 - he got the information from page 47 of the pdf from the request.

Dana O'Neil, co-author of the initial Athletic piece, did a request on October 7. Here's a link to the request and what was requested - https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/904/

Coaches contracts - quite a few requests for coach's contracts and they just refer people to request 870 - https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/870/ - which is where you'll find the contracts for all the current head coaches (Marshall, Wedge, Lamb, etc.). The Winthrop Intelligence LLC that did that request and others run a web site for AD's to view data on coaches throughout the country.

Lots of interesting reading, but there's quite a bit of stuff redacted as well in some of the pdf's.

                              • This is all good info. I have to admit they are good at covering their tracks. I bet they are using their phone calls, personal email, and texts to discuss these matters so it is not discoverable.

I sure would like to know why Golden resigned. Everything points to it was sudden.
