I think the MVC can survive losing Creighton. But the prestige takes a hit if our leadership doesn't get serious about upgrading the loss.
Some other programs that left were Houston, Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas St., St. Louis, Tulsa, New Mexico St. and West TX St., Washington (STL), and Washburn. There have been lots of changes over the years to this league. Most of which have not been for the better.

True, but to me, if we aren't thinking about putting together a package that will let us talk big like the C7 then we have lost before we even begin rebuilding the MVC. Unfortunately that's most likely where we're at.

You are correct on both points. And I wish it wasn't the case on the latter.

        • After Creighton leaves we should dump one turd from our conference, make it a west division, and then make the C8 an east division with separate governance. So the two independent divisions would make up a 16 team conference with two independent 8 team governing bodies for internal affairs and a single 5 person body for scheduling and post season tournament affairs.

This would have the added benefit to them that they would be pure catholic as Butler would mash up with the MVC.

            • I like that one too Kung Wu. I am just so afraid that the MVC will fall into the abyss of college basketball and be on par with the OVC or Sun Belt.

Yeah, I think most of the Shocker nation diehards share that concern.

                • ESPN: new league to begin July1st. Creighton is likely 10th member to be in the league next season. They get the Big East name.

                  • It appears that today will be the day, as stated above.
As I stated at MVCfans, HCGM was total class before, during and after the game last Saturday, and I hope we play you, your great program and your rabid fan base Sunday, and every year thereafter in non-conf, and I also hope that you realize your goal of a great upgrade in conference!
                    See you at Arch Madness!

                    • I hate CU leaving but I glad it's this year instead of having for a lame duck season. If u r going to leave I think a clean break is best. Also it will get the ball rolling quickly on replacement and will show us WSUs intention with the situation which I believe to be nothing.

Edit: pArdon my grammar, I hate using my phone to type.

                      • I still don't see this as a deal done, but it sure is seeming pretty likely. If in fact Creighton is leaving the Valley, it is very bittersweet for me. Awesome, because I get to trade in games watching Creighton play Evansville, Indiana State, Missouri State and Northern Iowa for Georgetown, Marquette, Xavier and Villanova.

It pains me to think about how much damage this could do to the Valley, but at the same time, so many schools in the Valley have brought this on. I really feel badly for Wichita State. Wichita State deserves better. Wichita State is getting screwed. The Shockers have done everything they could to both raise the bar in the Valley and also make themselves more attractive to move on. Should Creighton leave, of the nine schools that will remain in the Valley, Wichita State is the only one that doesn't deserve this fate.

I will miss the games against Wichita State, and even though they are struggling now, I will miss the games against Southern Illinois, the same can't be said for Evansville. I shouldn't have a soft spot in my heart for Drake, but I do. My nephew plays Pop Warner ball for Drake.

With that, should Creighton leave, I will still follow the Valley, but a bit differently. I used to pull for Drake, Creighton and Wichita State, the Shockers will now be my favorite, hands down. The only remaining team that tried every year. The Shockers never thought rebuild, they reload. Wichita State and Creighton support their teams with administrative support, fan support, financial support and anything else needed to be competitive. The rest of this conference hopes. They hope their underpaid coach performs, they hope they get a diamond in the rough every four or five years and they hope somebody donates money so they can build facilities and stave off the need to sell a cattle herd. Pathetic.

I don't wish death upon the Valley, I really hope it survives. I also hope every school learns that it takes commitment, not hope. It takes financial support, not waiting for a handout and it takes the balls to demand excellence every year, not just a good team every decade. At the same time, I hope Wichita State finds a home soon.

End of my rant. Now I need to go outside and look for the black helicopters, a bunch of guys in officially licensed, logo'ed league Polo's, and an official, sealed envelope just to make sure these rumors are at least to the standards of CaseyGarrisonForPresident. Then I need to figure out how to budget another 15% to the price of my season tickets. I expect my seats will cost $45/ seat per game next year.

If we could have only kicked out Evansville a few years ago, maybe Butler and a couple others would be in the Valley. Oh well.....
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

                        • I agree with MoValley and thanks for the nice words. However, if WSU does nothing to try and improve their situation with the conference, then we DO deserve whatever happens within the conference. We cant just ***** and cry about circumstances and then do nothing to improve them. This seems to be what is happening.

I could be wrong, I guess we will see.

Dont harbor any sour grapes for CU, they are making a no brainer move.

                          • The bad thing for us moving is a lack of options. Our location in the middle of the country doesn't help and we don't have football. We have two options that we don't know how good the odds are. One is hope the MWC does want to go to 12 basketball teams and two would be for the football BE schools to bring in nonfootball members to strengthen their new conference. What are the odds of either happening and us being considered? I don't know, but I trust Bardo/Sexton have looked into and made contact with people. No other conference will be any kind of upgrade.

Or we bring back football and hope we can move with that down the road.

                            • Our fate was really sealed many years ago, when we didnt see what was happening with the major metropolitan universities such as Cincy, Louisville, etc. A change should have been made way back then, which could have preserved football and maintained our viability.

Who knows what could have been, but the writing was on the wall, and we stood pat.

                              • If football does come back it won't be in Cessna Stadium. Once the new dorm is built in the parking lot south of Cessna Stadium I would expect the parking garage topic to be pushed to the front burner. Making Cessna Stadium the primary target.
Thus paving the way for a new football stadium located somewhere on the golf course if football becomes a serious topic..
