Yeah, Jody and staff have their work cut out for them. Actually, I think they need to work on balancing their classes better. Of course, that is easier said then done. In the men's game you can pick up some quality players via the Juco route as 3G has proven. Not sure the same is true in the women's game. The depth of talent at the Juco level just doesn't seem to be there. WSU certainly has not had great success overall going the Juco route.

Doesn't sound like we were ever really in the hunt for that player. A courtesy stop on her way back home to Omaha perhaps.

We'll need to recruit at least five for the following year to be back to twelve. They have begun conditioning. The two freshmen, don't know what hit them. Much tougher than high school. The Ok State big transferred to another school; not sure which one, but I believe 1972 does.
Krystal went back to Texas. Jody did announce it in the Eagle a while back. She'll go to a JUCO and try to land somewhere. 4.0 pre-med major with lots of potential. Sorry we lost her.

          2012-13 Roster (at this point)

As previously reported by OTWHC point guard Krystle Henderson has moved on. Also it looks like walk-on Brittany Taylor has decided to hang 'em up which is understandable. Big commitment for a non-scholarship player.

Actually, I think a roster of 12 is not a bad size. Most of the kids should get playing time during the year. We'll have to see how it goes for Senior Nicole Wells and the two incoming freshman. But Nicole showed last year that she can soak up some minutes as needed. The other 9 should play a lot.

As we have discussed our biggest issue is who will back up Jessica at the point. My guess is that duty will probably go to Jazimen Jones. But you never know. Maybe Molly, Darice or Alex could fill in as needed.

But I hope they dont let RELINA JOHNSON FROM EAST HIGH AND JADA LYNCH FROM HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL GET AWAY!!! those two girls would be a great asset to the team.We always lose area talent to out of state. I have no idea if we are recruiting these two Ladies or not. But it is just not a matter of Jody recruiting them and making them an offer. They have to want to be Shockers and man students want to move away from home for college if they have that opportunity and sometimes you simply can't overcome that. So if they choose to matriculate elsewhere it is not necessarily a matter of Jody LETTING them get away.

It could be a matter of Jodi recruiting them. It was well known that the previous coach didn't put a lot of effort into much of the local talent. So much so that a few that left town reportedly would have at least considered staying had there been a recruiting effort. It's possible that Jody thinks that local talent just isn't as good as talent elsewhere. That's not unheard of. I have no idea if that's the case.

Sure it could be and it might not be either. She might be recruiting them. She might not be recruiting them. They might want to go to WSU. They might not want to go to WSU. They might be D-1 talents. They might not be D-1 talents. I have none of those answers. I just know it is not always as simple as letting them get away.

                  • Relina johnson is a female version of frankcamp, this young lady over at east high can flatout score period. while jada lynch is over shadowed by katie palmer her teammate (missouri state commit). She still shows good b ball iq and a smooth shooting stroke.

In regards to local recruits, I do know that Coach Kip at Heights is not fond of the WSU program and doesn't encourage his kids to go there. A couple of years ago he had Jazimin (don't know last name) who went to Arkansas. She was offered a ride WSU. Local kids all over the country typically would rather leave the area. It doesn't matter if they are in a big time basketball program's backyard. Bottom line; we need quality players coming in 2013-2014.

If Jody thinks local talent isn't as good as elsewhere, then the WSU program is doomed to be second fiddle. Area players have gone to KU, KSU, OU, OSU, Missouri State, Missouri, Boise State, New Orleans, Memphis, Wyoming, Arkansas, Houston, Central Arkansas, SMU, Virginia Commonwealth, Utah, Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Colorado. Perhaps the WBB program should take a page out of the volleyball program and lock up some of the area talent. We even had one at OU start in the final four, and two local girls started last season at OSU. It would be nice to know that they are at least talking to some of the local talent but from what parents are telling me, they are not.

We had the same problem under the previous staff. Kansas girls have done pretty good things at a number of colleges. KSU had a nice run not too long ago and were led by Kansas girls. And I agree, if that's the perception that the staff has, we'll never be as good as we can be. Kansas girls have been proving for the better part of 20 years that they can play at a high level.

And if you're still hearing that the WSU staff doesn't spend the time recruiting locally that they should, that tells me a lot. I'm not saying you pass up better talent from out of state, but we have a lot of talent in state and very little of it ends up here. Some are going to leave regardless, but there are many college kids who want to stay close to home so family can see them play or so they can be close to home cooking. Not every kid wants to get away and travel 100s of miles from home to play.

                              • Darice Fountaine was recruited by WSU out of high school but chose Savannah State where her uncle is the President.

Fountaine was recruited to play for Wichita State out of high school but instead chose Savannah State, where her uncle, Dr. Earl Yarbrough, is the president.
Darice is now at Wichita State, although that may be due more to necessity than choice. In any case, to say they have totally ignored local kids might not be accurate. There may have been some kids that they didn't pursue simply because they believed they have no shot (i.e. Tiffany Bias). And if you have the coach of the best program in the state steering kids away from you that makes it tough also. What's the story behind that? Anyone know? That would make two women's sports where we have influential local coaches alleged to be steering kids away from Wichita State.

There is no doubt some quality talent in the Wichita area and in Kansas although not sure that the depth of the talent pool is real deep. I wonder if some of the turnover in the coaching staff has anything to do with recruiting issues?
