Got to watch our new signee play NEO tonite. Here's a little review:
He came off the bench and picked up two quick fouls. That really limited his minutes although HCGB did put him back in. He was reaching instead of using his height and quickness. TRCC appears to be guard oriented so EO wasn't getting a lot of touches. He did do one NICE post move. It was a hook that banked in. That is going to be pretty much un-blockable when he perfects it.
Second half he came in right away and really elevated his game. NEO was trash talking him and he was letting his game talk back. He had several blocks and altered quite a few shots enough that NEO missed a few bunnies. He grabbed a rebound out of mid air and thunder dunked it but there was a foul on the original shot. None the less, it was REAL immpressive.
HCGB had him in most of the second half including the last 8 or 9 minutes when the game was on the line.
For some reason I'm having trouble posting long post. Here are a couple more observations:
He is slowed right now by a knee. He is wearing some kind of brace or wrap on it and limping slightly.
He is still as fast as most of the guards.
Plays above the rim.
The rest of the MVC better learn to shoot with alot of arch
He is # 42 but his upper body is so big you could put a third digit on him.
Lower body needs more strength IMHO
Didn't get rattled by the trash talk. It seemed like he got motivated.
Flashes of Brilliance but still learning the game. Kind of a good news/bad news thing. Good News - EO will be here for three years. Bad news - EO will need to be here three years.
He's pretty mechanical with his moves. Has to think about them a little. When he "gets it" look out !!!
I may have to move back to Wichita. This is going to be scary !!!
There were 10 or so Shocker fans there. I'm interested to hear their version.
Ehimen is raw. But you can see the ability is there. He's strong and worked hard inside. TRCC has zero ability to feed the post. There were plenty of opportunities to feed Ehimen and the other post and the guards showed little interest.
Ehimen definitely plays above the rim. There were a few rebounds that showed it. One being the huge tip dunk he threw down that didn't count due to a previous foul. It still looked great. He did get his one dunk attempt that would have counted swatted by some Brazilian guy. But he went down to the other end and made a big block with his forearm then made a nice outlet pace to Carter for an easy basket.
You can see him sometimes thinking instead of reacting but he hasn't really played much the last couple of years. The kid works hard and has a soft touch. His offensive game will develop over time. He was also constantly smiling which was a great sign. He will get better.
I'm surprised that Junior Bess didn't have his head explode during the game. That dude is going to have issues.
The first half of basketball really sucked as the officials, at least the two bigger ones, decided they wanted to prevent any kind of flow from ever developing. The second half wasn't too bad.
Carter had a ton of points but I wasn't overly impressed. He showed some poor decision making and played really poor D. He can definitely shoot and get into space to get a shot off but I'm kinda glad he's waiting til spring. Bring on a wing!
After seeing EO live, I love the potential. It is certainly there, but it is far from polished. I'd love to see him become better at getting offensive position to receive a pass inside. As others mentioned, Three Rivers' perimeter players aren't the best at looking inside, but EO seldom got into really good position to receive a pass. I also look forward to seeing him learn to get into rebounding position. Yes, he plays above the rim and will get his rebounds by just being so long and athletic, but if he could position better, he'd double his rebounding numbers. Too many times, he was easily blocked out and would have had to foul to get his hands on the ball. That was part of the reason for his foul issues. Third, he needs to learn to be much stronger with the ball. Too often, he had the ball knocked out of his hands or stripped. The shot he was blocked on was one where he was going up for a 2 handed dunk, and the ball was blocked all the way back past the free throw line.
That being said, he will learn much this year and will learn much next year while probably not getting a lot of minutes. I would not be surprised to see him getting 5 - 7 minutes next year. But, by the time he is a senior, he will be something to behold.
He did seem to enjoy the trash-talking and returned some.
So..........what do we do with the skolly we have left?
GET A WING!!!
I'd rather have a leg...extra crispy too!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
