There is a selection committee for a reason. If their job was to simply pick the best teams based on RPI or whatever formula, they could get it done with a computer. The committee is supposed to pick the 37 BEST at large teams. This is not just a scientific analysis. Guys like Jerry Palm apparently don't understand this.
