      Hello 8 seed!!!
Agreed. But I think if we win the next 4 and Ill St is the last one, we will be better than an 8 seed. I just gotta believe!

      • Food for thought. Kenpom in January of last started tracking games, similar to the way RPI does (Top 50 / Top 100). But as opposed to the RPI itself, Kenpom's rankings (A/B) adjust for the location of the game. An A rank game is equivalent to a game against a top 50 opponent on a neutral court, while a B rank game is the same for a top 100 opponent.

This season we have gone 0-3 in Kenpom's A-rank games, losing by 17, 10, and 14. That isn't a good look, though it is worth noting that the closest of those games came against the best opponent (Louisville, ranked #6).

But in B-Rank games we are 5-1, winning by an average of 13.5 points per game. For comparison KU is 3-0, winning by 12.7 points per game against the same level of competition. Our 35-1 roster won all its B-rank games by an average of 13 points per game.

But the real question is how that compares to bubble teams.

        Team: A Wins - A Losses (A PPG) | B Wins - B Losses (B PPG)
        Wichita State: 0-3 (-12.3) | 5-1 (13.5)
        Kansas State: 4-10 (-4.64) | 1-1 (6.50)
        Marquette: 3-7 (-4.6) | 4-3 (3.86)
        TCU: 3-13 (-6.92) | 2-0 (5.00)
        Syracuse: 4-8 (-8.42) | 3-2 (5.60)
        Seton Hall: 5-8 (-4.69) | 3-2 (-0.80)
        California: 1-6 (-5.57) | 3-3 (2.60)
        Middle Tennessee: 2-1 (+8.33) | 3-0 (10.3)
        Providence - 4-8 (-4.75) | 6-0 (6.00)
        Michigan State: 2-9 (-10.9) | 5-1 (8.80)
        Arkansas: 4-4 (-5.38) | 2-1 (-0.67)
        Rhode Island: 1-4 (-3.20) | 3-3 (2.00)
        Wake Forest: 0-11 (-10.4) | 5-1 (7.50)
        Mississippi: 2-8 (-5.70) | 2-2 (-5.25)

How can you put teams that have gone a combined 35-97 versus top competition and 42-19 against second tier competition ahead of us? They have not proven they are better at winning games, they are proving that with 132 chances it is easy to find a win or two and erase bad memories.

The only team out of that bunch that deserves more respect is Middle Tennessee, who not only has the only winning record against A rank teams but also the only positive margin of victory. Everyone else had their chance, and lost it. At least Wichita State has shown promise by wiping the floor with the B rank competition they've faced since Christmas.

While St Louis and Tulsa lower our RPI, it's not the real problem. As you mentioned, the real problem is the home cupcakes. Nobody can judge how good we are. Replacing them with some real competitions, win or lose, the Committee would have something to judge or compare.

          • Currently In 113 of 117 Brackets on bracket matrix. 2 have updated since the last run and include Wichita. So that makes 115/117. The 2 that don't include WSU? A guy that has an arbitrary rule that says a team with >150 SOS can't get an at large, and Jerry Palm.

My only question would be, how many of those brackets that we're in are we in only because they have us as auto qualifier. Because we would certainly be favored over Illinois state in that regard I would think.

ISU is actually the AQ in a lot due to their RPI

The seeding detail also gives some insight there. 12 or lower seed is general only in due to AQ status and wouldn't get an at large.

WSU's average seed on the matrix is 9.69 with 9 at-large teams ranked behind them before the cut line. People who thought WSU was only in as the auto qualifier wouldn't be giving the Shox that kind of seeding.

For reference, ISUr is in 74 of 117 brackets. Their average seed is 11.31, which currently places them as the last team in.

If ISUr loses in St. Louis, they will probably only remain in about half the bracketmatrix brackets on selection sunday.
If WSU loses in St. Louis, they will still remain on the vast majority of brackets, just as a slightly lesser seed.

                      • As an 8/9 (hope we stay off that line) I want KU the second game over Gonzaga and Villanova. Who will be the fourth #1 now that Baylor has accumulated enough quality losses to gain the newly created #0 seed? UNC? I don't know enough about them one way or the other so I'll stick with KU as my preferred 1 seed. IMO that's our best case scenario if we end up with the worst case scenario (other than missing altogether) of being stuck on the 8/9.

7/10 would be nice especially if we ended up with Baylor, Oregon, or Arizona as the 2 seed. As much as I want another shot at them I'm maybe a little apprehensive of Louisville although I think we can beat them.

                        • Scroll down to WSU. This guy is such a clown. You can tell it's personal with the whole overtone of the article. He's even calling out his own colleague Gary Parrish.

I guess in Palm's eyes, WSU isn't allowed a slip up and needed to go 31-0 to just make the tournament. What a clown show.
