At once I am both cautiously pessimistic on the inclusion of CF into the WSU program, AND fully supportive, bought-in, and enamored with an absolute stud like 3G manning our bridge. In spite of the thrust seemingly coming from many on this forum, the two concepts are possible in a mentally-concurrent manner - critical thinking skills of an evolved species and all.

My concerns center directly around the emotional intangibles here - a trojan horse of sorts. It seems many sources echo a sentiment that CF and his father are as one, and as one they are a high-maintenance, self-centered PITA. Even the emotionally stripped-down media reports of the CF-KU separation reveal as much in a patently obvious manner. This all in a WSU program that has built its success on selflessness, NOT the converse. It scares me a bit, and unless you are sunshine pumper extraordinaire it should be cause for at least a tiny bit of concern for every one of you as well. Many believe that cliff the program fell off of from 05-06 to 06-07 was a clear and direct result of team chemistry, NOT talent.

The silver lining on this predicament is quite comical, no matter one's bent: That being if our program remains on current trajectory, AND CF comes in and makes a significant and tangible impact (without being a team chemistry dirty bomb), the bloody vajayjays in the KU circles (circle jerks?) will be a spectacle to behold.
In eating my words from previous posts as to why he wouldn't fit here, I've discovered a new flavor (no, not THAT one!). Perhaps instead of CF being upset with playing time potential, he simply wised up and realized that to develop as a PG he needed to get away from BS. That would fit with what I've observed of KU so far: they could've use an outside shooter this year, and BS isn't prone to developing good backcourt players. Maybe that's why BS was so upset when CF announced his transfer; he realized he was losing the best potential outside threat they had. His loss, our gain! Welcome, Conner!

    • My fantasy would have us meeting KU in the NCAAs and CF torching them for about 40 in a blowout win.

The fall off in 06-07 was a talent issue. Nobody was able to replace what Paul Miller provided and two straight years of terrible recruiting failed to partially replenish the stable.

That isn't wholly true. Go back and watch game tape from the start of that season. The schedule may not have been all that it seemed at the time, but that team was playing basketball like a Top 10 team in the early part of that season.

The fall off was because Sean Ogirri decided to bang Ryan Martin's girlfriend and poisoned the team chemistry. Sean was an important part of that team, but it would have been better if he had immediately transferred out. By all accounts most of the team hated him after that happened. He totally ruined that team.

It was an internal team issue. IIRC, one teammate slept with another teammate's girlfriend (or something along those lines).

                ----- EDIT -----

Thought so. Really sucks, because that could have been a special season.

Having to sit out a year may prove to be positive thing for Conner. He gains a year of physical maturity and works on his strength and conditioning with Kerry plus he has a year to work on rounding out his game as well and learning 3G's system. Probably well worth what he will have to cough up in paying his own way for whatever period that proves to be.

                      • Can't blame CF for wanting to play for a top 10 team. 😀

Zenger needs to worry about hiring a football coach he is not having to pay five years after they are fired

                          • I will join in the positive vibe here. Welcome Conner to Shockernation! I am extremely intrigued on this addition.

In Shockernation, there are NO guarantees, so come prepared to work your tail off (especially on the defensive end)!

                            • Deer Rudolph and Santa Baybay. We at SN have been very good and wanted to thank you that the top scorer in Wichita City League Basketball History, Mr. Frankamp is now a Shocker.

We do still have this one more favor to ask knowing full well our Coach can count ships and is a great recruiter. We also want Mr. Mulder from Vincennes to be a Shocker when he

signs in April. We ask that you drop by and down Kung Wu's chimney this Christmas. He will have some warm cookies and milk awaiting you. Just don't touch his autographed by 3G- Shocker

basketball. For your trouble, we have elected Mr. Kung Wu to also furnish you with a gallon jug of fortified bubbly Manischewitz to keep you warm and in the spirits on your way back

to the North Pole. No more coal in Kung Wu's stocking because he roots for our beloved Shockers which is my forever favorite team in all of sports!!!

Was the start of 06-07 where WSU knocked off some legit competition and vaulted into the top 10 just a fluke. It was straight down after that, and then Ogirri transferred. Happenstance?
