Scheme could be grand for Shockers, at No. 1 or not; Undefeated WSU deserving of top ranking, but critics abound

Article from the Lawrence Journal World on the Shocks. It was very complimentary much to my surprise. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2014/fe...top-spot-poll/

1. Wichita State (29-0)
Analysis: In response to an inquiry, here is what I wrote the Wichita Eagle about my decision to rank the Shockers No. 1:
1-It’s incredibly hard to be unbeaten at this stage of the season, no matter who you are.
2-Wichita isn’t exactly a nobody. Team was in a Final Four last season. The previous mid-majors to reach No. 1 (St. Joes and Gonzaga) never did that. Unlike Gonzaga, which gets held up as an example of why a mid-major should never be No. 1, the Shockers actually have a recent March pedigree.
3-If you watch Wichita play, the team is damn good.
No big winners this week as movement up was incremental. The big loser was San Diego State, which plummeted nine spots after the 14-point loss to New Mexico . . . The final two spots on the ballot are sketchy and essentially up for grabs between New Mexico, UMass, SMU and Oklahoma. I gave New Mexico and UMass credit for posting big wins this week.

Even so, wow! He all but called out KU personally in the article. I wonder if he's got a national job lined up. ;)

In fairness to Izzo, think about it. Do you dis a team out of conference or say no, I think the SHOX would be in the top two. Now, instead of giving bulletin board material to one team that you might never play, you give it 4 teams in the Big10 that you might have to play at least 1 or 2 more times this year.Kansas is Flat. The Earth is Not!!
