Interesting, but I won't read too much into it at this point.

I wonder if part of the bumps in the road they needed to work out to get a deal done with HCPM was him wanting his own S & C guy. Now this does not necessarily mean that Ryan Horn is moving on but would, at a minimum, involve a reorganization of the Shocker S&C responsibilities. Although Sloxlax has been know to accurately report on these kind of things in the past.

I don't really have an issue if that is what is happening, although I'm not wild about the new guy posting that on his social media before it has been officially announced.

Jans: Hey WSU, I don't like the way you handled the Coach Marshall situation.

            No, it did not.

He is still listed in the staff directory, along with two assistants and a grad assistant.

So if Mills is bringing his own guy, it doesn't necessarily mean it's to displace Horn.

I had checked this earlier as well. What I did not realize was that Bailey Lange was the grad assistant on the S&C staff. She was an Exercise Science Major during her softball playing days for the Shocks. Her last year playing was 2021 so I wonder if she will finish up her masters this semester and then perhaps move on.

He would displace Horn as far as primary responsibility for the MBB S&C program. Whether he would displace Horn or report to Horn, who is currently the head S&C coach remains to be seen.

I think your opinions are usually solid, so I'm curious as to why you seem so nonplussed about this hire compared to the rest of us. Your thinking typically matches up with a lot of mine on evaluating coaches and players (not that it's always right, but I'm curious as to the thought process there).
Personally I would have liked Devries or as a very high risk/reward with Sampson. And it's not that I don't like Mills, just have a major wait and see with him. The biggest concern I have is that while he has a sweet 16 and 30 win season, those both came off the backs of one recruiting class. And the key players in that class were credited to be brought in by the assistants that didn't come with him.

I have seen buzz with shockernet on it with the hire but haven't seen any buzz with players. I know it's still early but splash hires often get good players fast. If I remember right (could be off on timing) but Tang had several big time transfers commit very quickly for him

I just don't like the feeling that it appears that shockernet has turned into a mini Shocker faithful where you aren't allowed to have anything but optimism on here. I'm not saying hes going to fail, just not sure everything is going as rosy as painted on here

Says the guy to for over a year, defended Brown at every turn from those of us who wouldn't buy in.

But I think you should stick with your Mills criticism for a year now.

Unlike many on here, my opinion changes based on the facts available at the time. As far as brown, most of my "defending" wasn't defending brown but understanding WHY we had to hire him. I never defended that contract though.

I'll keep my wait and see approach with Mills until he proves otherwise

This is an article more than 2 weeks after Tang was hired where K-State still had 9 scholarships to fill after pretty much his entire roster left. Don’t believe he had one transfer commit.

You’re allowed to be as pessimistic as you’d like, but most of that reasoning feels flimsy to me.

Fair enough on the timeline. Still have my concerns overall with his success being tied to one recruiting class and really one or two players

                              • The interview with Saal on the other thread mentions the interview process for coaches. Saal says they were absolutely not going to hire an assistant coach (i.e. Sampson). They needed a guy with a track record and success running their own program.
