Allen was a dope smoking troublemaker at West Virginia before there were free transfers and he was not run off. Rogers was a 2 time transfer who had already used his free transfer and was not run off. Where was the slam dunk?"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

IIRC, Allen publicly admitted to illegal drug use while at WVU. The NCAA wasn't going to grant him a waiver.
Him having drug problems and wanting to be closer to people that can help him makes the waiver case even stronger.

Yes he went on to have struggles anyway, but no one could have known that at that time."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

Was anyone surprised when they heard about Allen’s problems in Wichita or as he moved from place to place? With his obvious talents, why is he playing in a low level minor league instead of the G League or in Europe? Must be the NCAA’s fault.
The point remains that these were not slam dunk cases. They were worth taking a shot at getting a waiver, but from the outset, they were not sure things and despite WSU’s best efforts, the NCAA’s decisions were not surprising to anyone looking at the cases objectively.
