Nobody denies that the US News ranking is flawed. That doesn't change the fact that it is used and creates certain perceptions of schools.

And SMU and Tulsa aren't leaving for the MWC. The AAC is still expected to make more than the MWC as is. They're not paying exit fees to go make less. And the east coast schools aren't dropping down to play the Belt.

I'm still not convinced that the XII adds anymore after OU and Texas depart. If they don't, the AAC will go after and most likely land the west wing. If they do expand by 2 more, the MWC still might be able to be raided as Boise carries their current media deal. Maybe CBS or whoever is willing to pay more to jeep them together than ESPN is to boost the American at that point. Time will tell.

But the AAC can land some schools that would be middle of the conference teams from the get go. They wouldn't drag the conference down and could build up being in a higher profile conference. The AAC is still where we want to be.

I think if you’re the one calling the shots at WSU the most important thing to remember is, fans are not going to be completely sold on staying in the AAC. The whole thought of going to the AAC if we were never going to bring back football was a bad idea from the get go and it’s coming back to bite us, hard, right now. The fans definitely want a new conference which absolutely isn’t the Valley. Staying in the AAC or going back to the Valley will ultimately be the final nail in the coffin for WSU athletics. Our leadership faces difficult decisions ahead

Rather than name calling, you and Gladwell might learn something by familiarizing yourself with the AAU (American Association of Universities). Many of those casting votes in the US News ranking appear to be familiar with one another and the academic activities of institutions included in said rankings. I am not apologizing for or endorsing the obvious "in-breeding" (elitism) present in this environment.

Barring a complete dissolution of the conference, we won't change conferences in the future because of athletics.

But it was Bardo's vision for the university (still largely aspirational at that time) that was carefully packaged and sold to the AAC presidents to allow us to pass through it.
