In our four years as members we have a 1st and 2nd place finish and never finished worse than 5th. We made the NCAA tourney two of three eligible years. We are poised to compete for a championship next year
Outside of Houston and Cincinnati no other team can match that.
Adding B12 teams would increase competition and make it unlikely that one team dominates the league. That’s not a bad thing. Outside of KU and Gonzaga that’s the norm and even KU has been knocked off their perch two of the last three years.
No one can tell the future. There’s a chance adding members to the league could damage the program. I think there’s a far more likely chance that it increases excitement, funding, interest, etc.

1. B1G
2. Big East with independent football (the UConn model)
3. AAC with at least 3 other B12 members
4. Hold the B12 together

ESPN won’t burn that kind of cash… they will hold the gold, let lawyers battle it out, and the B12 schools remaining will ultimately get a fraction of the $$People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

ESPN controls the large market cities, but not necessarily great ratings in those cities. Making the B12-2-2 leftovers available with local interest in those markets should drive viewership, and increase the value of the package to ESPN.
Adding a couple large market teams to the B12-2-2 leftovers would require sharing any increased viewership with Fox, Mickey ain't gonna be sharing anything with Fox if there is any way to avoid it. The elephant in the room is ESPN, and it's our elephant.
