  • Gonzaga did it with a far worse supporting cast. They now have St. Mary's to help them buoy the WCC, but it was not always so.

At least the MVC has a few more candidates on a year-to-year basis with the potential to be at-large worthy. There's no reason that one or two of the ISU's, SIU, BU and perhaps MSU couldn't put together at least a 2-3 year stretch of joining WSU near the top.

I hope we can somehow get into the MWC, but they would surely make a run at the Zags before us, unless they don't want a small private school. My gut says our odds are 10:1 at best. The Valley is just going to have to find the best replacement possible and hope we can carry the conference will a little help from our "friends".

    • I think the MWC would love the Zags. I don't think the Zags want the MWC. They like being with like minded schools I think.

      • Shox brass need to make inquries now for MWC inclusion! They want to add a non football school. It really is our only hope at improving our conference standing. We may never get another opportunity for a long, long time. Cant sit and do nothing. Have to at least try. If they say no thanks, well, at least you know.

        • I prefer to believe the post sometime ago that said contact between the MWC and WSU has been made and there is mutual interest. Hopefully Bardo and Sexton can close the deal.

          • Let's solicit UW Milwaukee and Detroit. Programs from very big markets and a little upside in recruiting. While we're at it, lets grab Denver too.

              • I'd really like to get a comment from Sexton on this. Just so we know whether or not to be hopeful.

                • We need to contact David Stern about joining the D-League.

                  • Both UNI and Indiana State could have been at-large candidates, but crapped the bed. The same can probably be said bout ISUr and their 0-6 start in the MVC.

Is the MWC really looking for a non-football member?

                    • I read an article in the colo springs news. Im sorry, but cant post it from my phone. Think it wss yesterday in the afa sports section. Says the mwc is looking for non football schools and that the zags would be #1, but he says shox would be a possability.

Again, sorry I cant give a link from my phone.

                      • "The current construction of Mountain West basketball will cease to exist with the conclusion of the conference tournament in two weeks, as the nine-team league braces for the addition of San Jose State and Utah State. The jump to 11 (Hawaii is a football-only member, leaving the odd number) has led to scheduling issues that could be smoothed over with the inclusion of one more program. And with the MW currently ranked No. 1 in conference RPI, there would be no time like the present to find that one additional school that doesn’t play football and bring them into the fold.
If it were up to you, who would you like to see brought into the mix?
Keeping in mind this is entirely hypothetical, here are my top choices:

"Wichita State (currently in the Missouri Valley)
With nine NCAA Tournament berths to its credit – including three trips to the Elite Eight – as well as NBA standouts Xavier McDaniel and Antoine Carr amongst its alumni, the Shocker would bring some historical weight to a league currently short on deep basketball roots. The Shockers are also pretty good in the now, ranked No. 39 in RPI and having played in the NCAA Tournament last year and capturing NIT title the year before that. They draw well, averaging 10,312 fans per home game this year in an arena that has a capacity of 10,512. Wichita State wouldn’t, however, open a large market like Gonzaga. Wichita is a mid-90s media market – nearly identical to Colorado Springs – and the potential of penetration statewide is limited given the presence of Kansas and Kansas State. Still, from a basketball perspective, this would improve the Mountain West. It would also represent at least a slight step up for the Shockers from the Missouri Valley, and its close proximity to the Front Range wouldn’t greatly impact the miles it currently travels as part of a league with schools from Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky."

We are second on the reporter's list behind Gonzaga. Also included are BYU, Denver, and Santa Clara.

                        • For all the Mountain West love, do you realize we will be on TV even less than we are with the Valley?

Being in the Central time zone, away games will start at 8 and 9pm Central.

And we don't recruit out west.

We want to be the furthest west team in a conference, not the furthest east.

                          • I'm sorry but I'm still for keeping the valley name and making it stronger. I get that it sucks, but adding a few good teams (assuming that is possible) is more fun to me than leaving. Maybe I'm too hopeful.

Hey if they big east is crumbling, you never know just how good of a school you might get, even if only temporary. Especially when the league has historically had several high end programs.

I'm just gonna sit over here and foolishly hope we add everybody looking for a home... Louisville, Cincinnati, Pitt...just having fun over here... They can keep their football where ever they want it.

Hehe it's probably too early to be drinking this much

I mean the thread said 'best possible outcome' right?
