That's the main reason why the C7 are linked together and schools like Depaul aren't just dumped outright.
I know that, and it is one of the considerations we'd have to make. Is going to a slightly better conference worth losing the auto-bid (though Wichita State hasn't great at securing an auto-bid in the MVC)?

If the conference is strong enough, three or four bids a year, you can live without the autobid for five years or whatever it is. I'm not sure the above conference fits, but the autobid wouldn't be killer in the right situation.

      • UMKC leaving Summit - Dakota Schools to Valley

From the Argus Leader (Sioux Falls, S.D.) -- Steven St. John from WHB radio in KC reporting that UMKC is leaving the Summit to go to the WAC - mainly because the Dakota schools in the Summit (South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State) appear to be eventually headed to the Valley.

As reported by Steven St. John of WHB radio in Kansas City, Missouri-Kansas City is leaving the Summit League for the WAC starting with the 2013-14 season. Where things get really interesting is the...

Sources appear hard to come by, and perhaps speculation only, but interesting nonetheless.

My apologies - the theory on the Dakota schools coming to the MVC being an eventuality is actually from Blair Kerkhoff from the KC Star.

A writer for the kc star isn't exactly the best to speculate on anything Missouri Valley

Maybe not, but he is for the Summit League, which UMKC is a part, and he certainly as qualified as anyone on this forum (to speculate).

The Dakota schools already compete in the Missouri Valley in football.

                    • Other potential WAC candidates are Omaha of the Summit and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Please. Omaha's (a/k/a, "UNO") athletic department is broke. They lose a ton of money now and hockey is their only revenue producing sport. I don't see any way that UNO joins the WAC and significantly increases its travel costs when they can't afford their travel costs in the much more geographically friendly Summit. On top of that, this is only their first real year in the conference, so I doubt they are already planning a move. They dumped football and wrestling just to make the move, ticking off all sorts of alumni, but now they might go to the WAC? C'mon. The only way this happens is if the Summit ceases to exist.

                      • I remember talk of Evansville possibly leaving, but haven't seen that for a while now. Is it still a viable rumor? EU could walk all over one of those smaller conferences.

Is the C7 taking Creighton all but a gaurantee now? I haven't seen anything about the C7 for a while now either.

                        • Listening to Bob and Bruce they raise an interesting scenario that if Creighton (as well as EU to the Horizon League) leave, and the Valley brings in the Dakota programs, GM is leaving WSU as he would not want to be part of a lower tier conference. I buy that, anyone agree?

                            • If it comes down to the fact that HC3GM leaves due to Elgin not shoring up the MVC with equal or better talent than leaves, and due to Sexton + Bardo not finding the Shox a better conference should the Valley implode or take a major step backwards ... then how can anyone argue against regime change?

Probably, unless WSU can elevate to a Memphis type situation a few years ago, where we are top 25 no brainer and run through the league. I think it will also depend on the love he has for his players.

It will also depend on what positions are available. I still dont see him going somewhere with no tradition and rebuilding projects.

So, i suppose the situation, by itself, doesnt become a sole reason for him to leave, but it dont help.
