RPI numbers from the last 3 years for the Valley and the AAC. These are the 3 years with no membership changes in either league. Obviously you cannot simply subtract WSU's RPI from the MVC average, or add it to the AAC average and expect anything meaningful as it ignores a season's worth of weight to the team RPIs; but it's fun to look at nonetheless.

From a marketing standpoint, The AAC has really milked the WSU to the AAC for all they can.
They have had a lot of free marketing starting with the MVC tournament. if they really want to finish it off right,
they will make their decision official next week. They will get more buzz Final Four weekend than if they wait till after
the Final four is over.

It also makes sense to bring WSU on board this fall when WSU is hot. WSU would bring more press and money this fall than waiting a year.
Why give the MVC the potential publicity and money from a possible WSU Final Four run when the AAC could take away the money
and the press coverage?

What I like most about this is the fact that this season, the AAC had the 7th best RPI as a conference trailing the SEC and PAC 12 who are 5th and 6th respectively. I'm sure by adding WSU to the AAC the conference RPI would rise significantly. Whether the AAC moves into 5th or 6th (perhaps higher) remains to be seen because, as you've pointed out, every year the RPI fluctuates. Some of the trends look great (Houston, Cincy, UCF, SMU) and some are troublesome (UConn, ECU, USF, Temple, Tulane). But what we know about the MVC schools are far more worriesome so I like the fact we'll be in a conference of like-minded schools. This is going to be fun.

BTW, Sully's report from last night in which he quoted Katz's article is trickling out to other AAC markets. Just saw it picked up on the Cincy newspaper's website. This is soon to be announced.

Where is this Steve guy getting his numbers from? Those attendance numbers are wayyyy off, especially SMU's.

CORRECTION: I guess most of those numbers are correct, but SMU's is definitely off.

2nd CORRECTION: SMU's attendance average was 6900, according to the AAC website. The rest looks legit.
