  • Canada threatening sanctions for us pulling out of the Keystone Pipeline. This will close down lots of American jobs and take us back into the throes of OPEC for expensive oil and dependency on the Middle East which will cause possible world instability.

P/week comes to almost $30,000 p/year x 2 = $60,000 p/yr. in Kansas, especially, this is a job killer but really great for families who can find a job instead of unemployment. Businesses will be hurt, and maybe close down, and/or prices will have to go up.
Don't forget that the higher the minimum wage, the more cost efficient newer automation becomes in many sectors.

That’s the real killer IMO. That and the fact that increased labor costs are passed on to consumers meaning $15 ain’t what it used to be.

        • Just more of Obama era think tank ideas. These jobs are never coming back so everyone can have a nice cushy desk job at $100K/year and 4 months off. Just like sending jobs overseas, this will kill jobs for those that need them most. The SJW crowd will literally never learn.

Also it completely ignores the fact that, for instance, the young lady who has worked hard and advanced in say a retail environment to assistant manager making $15/hour or 50% more than the new hire is going to get a bump in, oh about, ZERO% of the companies. That will go over well everywhere I'm sure. The idea itself is so galactically stupid it defies logic. Anyone that thinks it's a good idea is a moron.

I'm okay with the minimum wage being raised. It hasn't kept up with inflation so adjusting it for that, as well as some regional cost-of-living variable seems reasonable. Maybe you get $9 in Kansas and $18 in NYC. Two people on minimum wage need to be able to afford a modest apartment, food, and a used car. That isn't the case now.

I understand the implications for small businesses. Perhaps there could be a waiver for companies w/ less than 30 employees. But a couple working at Wal-Mart will have the means to exists w/ some dignity, have a child, and even save for education, investment, or entrepreneurial pursuits.

So you think it should be handled locally/regionally as opposed to federally? Brilliant!

Unless it's not being handled regionally...

One size does not fit all. Federal guidelines based upon the metrics I mentioned earlier are fine.

Meh, that's ok. All of the socialist freebies will take care of them. Joe's got a plan. C'mon man! Also, you reap what you sow...

Gonna be a lot of buyers (voters) remorse.

                      • $15 minimum wage is nuts for low-cost of living states, like . . . Kansas. It won't make much of difference in high-cost states.

                        • Raising the minimum wage makes my family pay more for everything we buy. Why is it our responsibility to help someone else live in an area they can't afford?

                          • Clearly I'm not supporting Biden, and I think this is a terrible idea, but are they proposing, right now at least, $15/hour for Federal jobs only?

If so, how many jobs would that really affect, and how many of those jobs are in Kansas?

(I'm just curious, and there's a valid discussion to be had that government, tax payer funded, jobs can't pay more than the private sector etc)

I could be misunderstanding this, but I believe the federal minimum wage is the minimum hourly rate that every employee must be compensated. Commission/gratuity based industries are usually exempt so long as the final compensation still exceeds the minimum.

                              • From the new Senate Budget Chairman, Bernie Sanders warns Democrats that they'll be decimated in the midterms if they don't deliver BIG. Anyone who thinks this movement is going away, or anyway but up, I think is kidding themselves. This wing of the democrat Party is anti-establishment, and I would compare them to the Tea Party and which led up to the Populist movement on the Right. I hate to say it but Socialism is just a decade or two away if people don't form against it. That's not really that long.
