Worst part is he's a member of Shocker Faithful, has Wu for his profile picture, and just graduated from WSU. I'm guessing based on his question, he doesn't follow college basketball very closely.
Regardless of WSU's capability on the court, it's capability of winning recruiting battles against programs like Kansas and Kentucky is far from proven. Acknowledging that doesn't make someone less of a WSU fan. It's pretty blatantly obvious that Kansas and Kentucky have and will always have higher rated recruiting classes than WSU.

I'd change Suellentrop to WuDrWu here. PS didn't touch this topic for a month after it was known here.

The Dr's posts and strategic "like"'s are the only reason I paid any attention to this.

Yes. Everyone can just stop posting and wait for WDW to post again.

Beating Bill for a Top 5 recruit may be a little satisfying and allow us to beat our chest a little but it has never mattered in the past 4 years when we've been at least as good and probably better than they are on the court (and for sure the rankings at the end of the year) where it matters. This year is just the first year where we proved it head to head. Taking the long view, it doesn't really matter and we will continue to be better.

          • No doubt, GM's recent terrific seasons have brought Shocker BB to the point that we are now, year-in-and-out, considered among the top 1-15 teams in the nation. What seems to matter here most now is the Center position. No doubt that he has been able to recruit highly talented young men at the guard and forward positions who for the most part were under the radar and through his teaching and training, he has turned them into outstanding players.

But, at the 5 position, he has had to rely primarily on JUCO's and transfers. In years past, he has not been able to compete successfully for non-project centers with Stutz being possibly the one exception. But even then he was initially very raw.

When, if not now with Humphries, but very soon, he is able to recruit a highly rated 5, the flood gates will come crashing down.

              I know Paul Suellentrop.

Paul Suellentrop is a friend of mine.

Trust me when I tell you I am NO Paul Suellentrop.

The software for this message board has a provision for a thumbs up for a post that a poster likes.

I wish there was a provision for a thumbs down as well.

I'm not arguing that the name on the front of their jersey isn't one hell of recruiting advantage. The fact that he doesn't believe we have a "serious" chance for this kid tells me he doesn't pay much attention.

                      • The following information is from various Rival articles, all written before WSU's known involvement with Humphries. Schools known to be involved to some degree are Duke, Kentucky, Oregon, Kansas, Arizona, Michigan State, Utah, Illinois, Miami, UCLA and New Mexico. Known offers are from Kansas, Oregon, New Mexico, Illinois, Florida, Utah and Arizona (from Verbalcommits). He has been to Creighton, Illinois, New Mexico and attended a Ohio State football game at Illinois. He has been limiting his recruiting phone calls and prefers in person contact. A good relationship with the coach and where there are things to do besides basketball, and the quality of his dorm life are important to him. Coaching staff from New Mexico and Illinois have established good relationships with him.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a battle between New Mexico and Wichita State, with the possibility of Illinois and perhaps Oregon also in there. I add Oregon only because of the recent crystal ball prediction for them.

                        • If "things to do beside basketball" are really important to him, we may be in a bit of trouble there. I'm not sure what his interests are so don't know if we can compete with what some of the other schools can offer (such as football).

There are plenty of things to do in wichita besides basketball.

                              • Sounds like Ricky is well acquainted with the underside of life in Doodah. Maybe if WSU wants to acquaint Humphries with la femmes someone should introduce him to Chris Lamb and his lovely volleybabes instead. Much more wholesome (at least one would hope).
