  • What is difficult to measure is how a player of that size affects the entire game. It's so much more than points and rebound.

His presence commands defensive reaction. How does his ability to post free up other spots? Even 1 more open 3 for Fred, Ron and Conner, at 50% success is worth 4.5 points a game. I'm sure the Houston GM could present an entire matrix of statistics, but a kid like that likely makes everyone better. A kid like this makes the entire offense better. Defense however is certainly more of a question mark.

    • Or the ability to run to two 7'ers in a game. His presence opens up all kinds of rotations to be used. It opens up the playbook and match up game when we play teams who can't match up with height, or we play an elite sized team that we've run into some trouble against.

      • I would sure love to see him and Nurger at the 5 and 4. It will be fun trying to see anyone stop them offensively. Coach can just yank them if they won't rebound and they will learn eventually :)

        • Just look how much a guy like Reggie Lynch affects the interior play. This guy is head and shoulders better than Reggie Lynch.

          • I agree that I think people might be expecting too much as far as IH's production next season. Not only is he a freshman, but he's a very young freshman. We aren't talking Parker, Okafor, Wiggins, Durant, etc. type of talent here. IH is rated somewhere between 25-50 on most recruiting sites. To put that is perspective, Perry Ellis the #24 rated player by rivals averaged 5.8 ppg and 3.9 rpg his freshman year. I think expecting IH to come in and be a instant force inside is a bit unrealistic and unfair.

My hope for IH is come tourney time he has gained enough experience in 3GS system and dveloped enough to possibly be starting. I'm not expecting double digits points or rebounds. Just a solid piece to the puzzle. His size and skill set covers up the one glaring hole on most of 3GS teams the last few years. He will help with matching up against certain teams.

WSU doesn't need him to be a dominate force. Just a center that can actually defend someone with size and be someone the other team has to pay attention to. This is all relying upon actually getting the guy lol

            • I'm just imagining the size we could be at any given time with Ron playing the point, we could go 6'4", 6'7", 6'8", 6'10", 7'. I have no realistic idea of the number, but there can't be a whole lot of teams that could play with that size and have legitimate threats at every spot.

I don't know how that lineup would play together, but it would be fun to see! Could be very effective against Evansville, with Brown guarding Balentine.

                • If the Shockers do not land Humphries, I fear Jim Jones, redux.

                      • People really still think Nurger can play the 5? And did read something about Kelly playing the 5?
