We had plenty of players leave under Turgeon. It seems as though one Shockernet poster thinks Marshall is alienating players to leave after he finds a player he prefers more. I guess no players really do get homesick or want more playing time and decide to leave on their own. Turgeons 2plus players to leave a year (5 after one season) must have all been for truely personal reasons. It would take coach as "smooth" as 3G to make a player think leaving was really their idea.

    • If a player can't 'cut it', then they shouldn't be in the program. Sometimes mistakes are made in recruiting players, or they just don't pan out.

      • Teddy (along with Cleanthony) was exactly the type of player we were missing last night against Bama! I'm very excited to have him as part of next years Shocker class!

          9. So did Wichita State really do that? Evidently so. A five-man class led by Fred Van Vleet and Deontae Hawkins could put the Missouri Valley Conference on hold for a Kansas Minute.

          • It is nice that we are signing a solid class with players like this one that can step right into our player rotation. We are now feeling the crunch of losing 4 players in our rotation. After this Season, we will lose an additional 5 rotation players. Thus, by the time we are done here, it will be a banner recruiting Season as well it needs to be.

            • Why is there not a thread on Teddy on ShockerHoops.net?

              • Hawkins not getting the love he deserves! Kid is a huge athlete that can play both forward positions. I suppose he is easy to overlook with all the pub that Early and VanVleet have been getting, but he is probably the 4th or so best recruit that HCGM has brought to WSU after Carl, Fred, Cleanthony, and maybe Garrett. I expect Teddy will be in the forward rotation with White and Early from the get-go next year leaving Hall and EO as the center. The guard rotation will be nice as well with Malcom, Fred, Tekele, Demetric, Ron, and Evan. I imagine we'll play 9 and not 11, but we'll be deep...just a little inexperienced.

                • Wu, you seem to be assuming that Anacreon will never be a contributor -- it may be a little early to jump to that conclusion. You've also left out Mitchell, and seem to be assuming (as I suspect also) that Uwadiae and Green will redshirt.

In any case, that's some fairly serious, talented depth. True, it's less experience than we're enjoying this year and still less than last, but even some of the "new" guys aren't quite as raw as they might seem. Armstead is a proven Pac-12 PG who will have a year of practicing WSU's ways under his belt; Mitchell was a quality juco player who will also have a year of redshirt work; White and Wessel will have had some court time to go with their practice work, and from what I keep reading and hearing, Baker could be playing right now if they needed him. Next year's Shocks will no doubt miss the departed seniors, but I don't believe the learning curve for the replacements will be nearly as severe as some seem to expect.

In what was thought was going to be a close game, Dunbar blew it open. Perhaps Teddy only had 6 points but this also happened. "Dunbar freshman AJ Harris was on a fast break, and a CJ player, I believe #15 was trailing Harris. Harris tosses the ball off the backboard and the CJ player jumps, and Hawkins comes towering over him with a monsterous two hand slam! Crowd went nuts, because Hawkins landed on the kid, the crowd went to help Hawkins up, hence the delay of game call." A foul was called on Teddy and the Dunbar fans got the delay of game call.

                      Expect some excitment with Teddy!

                      • @WSUwatcher:,

Not assuming JA won't be a contributor, just assuming that with one year left that he will contribute less than White, Hawkins, Early, Hall, EO, and Wessel. Same with Mitchell versus the guards. Not a conclusion for either, just an expectation. Bottom line is that we have more talent than minutes and some will not play. Those are really just my educated guesses (not that they aren't capable). I do expect that Henry and Green will RS. I think both will be well served as 5th year seniors. OTOH, many expected that Cotton would RS this year, but any mature player that puts in the effort and grasps the offense will certainly see the court. TC did have the benefit of a D-I ready body which is likely not the case for HU and DG.

As for experience, we will return one starter in Hall and three players with significant court time in DWill, TC, and EO. Several others will have a year of experience in the system +/- court time at WSU. We'll have to see how they fair.

In any case, despite Hawkins rather weak statistical showing in his senior opener, he is a big time athlete and was a top 150 recruit prior to inking outside the SEC. I imagine that had he signed with Bama he would have been a top 100ish player similar to FVV had he signed with Illinois.

                          • Hawkins (#3) is pretty dang athletic! Looks like all three of his FGs were dunks and it also showed a nice 3 point stroke that missed. One of those little guys is going to CU next year as well...Not sure which one, but there were three of them (#1, 2, and 12), each of which had a nasty cross-over.

Andre Yates (Creighton) is #1. Very impressive Gary Akar (Cleveland State) is #2. #12 is Amos "AJ" Harris, a freshman who also needs to become a Shocker in a few years.

                              • Dunbar seems to be loaded with talent! With those three guards on the floor, it's very likely that the majority of Teddy's points will come off of put backs.
