He gets them to make a decision that impact the rest of their lives and when he finds a player he likes better, they are shown the door. I am anxiously awaiting the multi year letter of intent. At that point, there will be more commitment from the coaches and school towards the student athlete and maybe Marshall will be forced to develop players and not just recruit.

After going back and reading your previous 114 posts (ok I'm bored), I smell a hidden agenda.

    • The scholarship problem is easily solved. As soon as Teddy qualifies 3G will either adopt Ron Baker or Evan Wessel and pay their way out-of-pocket (3G's pocket that is).

Turgeon lost between 2 to 5 players every year he was here. Who really knows as to why certain players left the program under Marshall. AJ Hawkins decides to leave his 2nd school and move closer to home? Players struggle for playing time, decide to transfer and end up at a school closer to home? (Wendell Preadom, Reggie Chamberlain, Kenny Manigualt). Jerome Hamilton had attitude issues all year long and was given the oppurtunity to return and didn't.

I seriously doubt Marshall sees his players as "disposable". So Henry Uwadiae is a strong reshirt candidate and no one has ever said Joe Mitchell would recieve a scholarship. No way does that imply Marshall will run off a player or Baker or Wessel will pay out of pocket. Both those young men have shown they deserve their scholarships so far.

        • There are two major upsides to next year's tremendous recruiting class.

          1. The obvious one is that from all appearances this is a very talented group of young men that GM and his coaching staff recruited and the future looks extremely bright. And who knows just how high this "Shocker Fabulous Five" just might take us in future NCAA tournaments.

          2. And secondly, the chances of GM staying on as our coach after recruiting this class have significantly increased regardless of which BCS comes calling at the end of this season or the near future. And they most certainly will after last year's NIT run, this year's potential, and his demonstrated ability to recruit and produce winners. Anything of course can always happen. But I would assume the offer would have to be something really special from one of the top BB programs in the nation for him to even consider changing courses now without seeing how far he can take these young men.

Of course I was wrong once in 1976 and I could be again. But I don't think so.

          • Wichita State coaches wanted to get the last visit from Dayton Dunbar forward Teddy Hawkins. They also wanted him to visit for a game and see their biggest selling point – the Koch Arena crowd.

Next to our dollars perhaps the most important contribution we can make to the program as fans.

Also, please describe his strengths, weaknesses and potential going forward.

                    Thanks.

P.S. - There are some expressions, which are over used such as "going forward" and "appropriate." So, I had to make fun of myself.
                    RDR,
Thinking back, he will remind you of Steve Grayer. Long, lean and athletic.

He definitely has work to do in the weight room, but is explosive off the floor. I mean he literally is in the air while others are coiling to jump.

He is a proto-type HCGM recruit. Long arms and using an old school term, rangy.

Mucho hats off to Dana Ford. I never thought they would get him out of this area, but the guy knows how to relate and advocate.

Whatever HCGM is paying him, he has already earned his merit raise.

Hats off to the Royal. He caught on to my short post yesterday. ;-)

Not sure what people were taking about TH not being too impressed on Sunday. When he came back, word was it was icing on the cake.

He was really impressed with the direction the program is heading. Say what you will about the NIT, but winning the Tournament is paying big time dividends.
Above all, make the right call.

                    • Hawkins recruitment. “I wanted to find somewhere that I can play right away and Wichita State offered me that. Coach said that I have a really good chance to come in and start as a 3/4 my freshman year”, Teddy told Triple Double Prospects.

For those concerned about Hawkins' statement of playing right away with Hall in front of him, remember two things: First, he saw what Hall was doing on the court and second, HCGM said that Hall was the Shocker player who was responsible for taking Teddy around while he was in Wichita. I'm sure he is well aware of the Beast.

It's a mistake to try to read minds, and body language from across a basketball court (or farther depending on how far away they are sitting).

                        • This signing is huge and far exceeds my expectations in terms of this overall recruiting class. WOW. I still say that this group of Coaches may be our best group of recruiters collectively ever.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

+1 and then some. To call nut merely "off base" is being far too kind. The accent in his name is definitely on the second syllable.

By the way, has anyone ever seen nut and Jerome Hamilton at the same time?

                              • A couple of thoughts:

Marshall is getting a lot of recruiting mileage out of an NIT run. Turgeon had recruiting busts after a S16 run. I'm tempted to think that after the S16, Turgeon's main priority was not recruiting to WSU.

Out of the HS forwards WSU was recruiting, I think WSU got numbers 2 and 3 on their list. I know they got #2 and #3 on my list.

We've got Freddy and Teddy but no longer have Eddy.

Whether or not a player has "earned" a scholarship isn't an issue if the family of that player has told Marshall they will pay for their son's costs if Marshall finds a player that can help the Shox (and their son) win some games. I still think one of the in-state players has a family willing to give up a scholarship. I don't think that family is concerned with whether their son has "earned" a scholarship. I think that family is only concerned with WSU (and their son) having the best opportunity to succeed at every level.

This is the most obvious Marshall has ever been at recruiting past what appears to be filling all the scholarships. This isn't something Marshall has done in the past, so I think 3G knows something we don't and there's a scholarship available at his discretion.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
