What a physical specimen. For a 7-0er he can run like a deer & jump to the heavens, but can he play basketball.

I am of the belief that at the end of the day he is over-hyped. Nothing against the young man, but let's face it in the last three years we have accumulated 139 pages of hype. You would think he is the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain.

There are many posters that communicate he will be a monster as a Jr. & especially as a Sr. So let's all chime in on what our expectations are of him.

Let me start. This year is a wash. Let's face it, I think we all believed he would have a bigger impact even on this year's team. Thus my concern for his long-term effect. I have said all along EO will have way more effect on the defensive end than offense.

    As a Jr. -- 18 minutes; 5 points/7 rebounds/2 blocks/assists & TO's not really applicable IMO/44% FG/55% FT (foul trouble suspect).

    As a Sr. -- 22 minutes; 8 points/9 rebounds/2.5 blocks/48% FG/60% FT.

Let me go on record as saying "I will take these results." He appears to be a great kid and one I am, and will continue to be, proud to call a Shocker. I just think what his expectations were coming in, he is over-rated. Please discuss!!!

If EO's expectations are any different from what I predicted I would be surprised!!!

Honestly, Garrett Stutz and double-doubles have, and probably will in the future, not be verbalized very often.

I don't think Garrett will ever be a "stud." He has some terrific skill for a 7-footer. However, he is too slow, which won't change drastically, is not powerful enough around the basket, and his defense, although not terrible, just isn't good.

He will be solid, in MVC terms, but not a stud.

            Remember this guy?

Stutz is 1 point and 1.5 rebounds behind Miller comparing their third year campaigns. Stutz is averaging 7 less minutes too. Patience.

              • If Garrett can finish strong this year and have a very hard-working summer, let's hope he has a banner Senior year. Nobody knew that Darin Miller would have such "Miller Time" his Senior year and win MVP in the Valley. Thus, stranger things have happened. Garrett should have significant minutes next Season and he will make the best of it.

As far as EO, he is playing behind 4 solid players. Coach Marshall knows the potential of EO and works him hard. If AE would have had a redshirt Season, than EO's minutes would have increased, maybe by quite a bit. Thus, we play to win each game and EO will get a fair shake and I hope he surprises all of us with solid production before he graduates.

                • I did not see the ShoxFan1989 and the 963 post until I already posted the above reply. That was indeed some facts to behold 963 and I am glad we were on that same wave link.

I'm assuming you mean Paul Miller, not Darin. Guys, I'm telling you Garrett is just too slow to reach the kind of ceiling you believe he has. I think he is a nice player, but not to the extent of Miller. Posters can draw comparisons all they want in this case. Garrett is just too soft in the areas that a big man needs to own the court...sorry!!!

                    • My blunder indeed SHOXMVC. YIKES!!! Paul Miller. :good: Even so, The very best of Garrett Stutz (did I get his name right?) is yet to come. You'll see. You'll see. :D

FSF - I am in total agreement with you about the best is yet to come on Garrett. My point is that the best of Garrett will be 23 minutes/11 points/7 rebounds approximately. Not the "stud" factor many on this board think he will reach.

                        • There aren't many on here that have said GS is going to average 20 and 10...in fact I don't think anyone has said that.

11 and 7 would be fantastic with this supporting cast and would put him on an All-MVC team! On a weaker team, he could be a 15 and 10 guy, but that would have to be at someplace like Evansville or Creighton.

Garrett PLAYS slow, but I don't think he IS slow. I think Garrett's slowness comes from hesitation and thinking instead of reacting. If you think a split second before reacting on D you already beaten. If you think about what your move is going to be on offense before you make it, the defender is in place or has stripped the ball from you. I don't think Garrett is physically any slower than Paul Miller since that's where the comparision is. Also I don't know who was getting the "5" minutes Paul wasn't that year (Phil Thomasson & Kyle Wilson & Rob Kampman??) but he was our best option and had to play. I'd wager that if we took Durley out of the mix Stutz would be developing faster. Fortunately for us, we have Durley. Durley has a ton of faults that are well documented. He is a talented and effective scorer and can play defense when he desires. I think many of us hoped that Garrett would take more of Durely's minutes at the "5" pushing Durley to the "4." It hasn't happened, but I still think Garrett is capable of a Paul Miller like year next year and shades of it this year.

After all his success, Paul Miller plays professionally in Europe last I checked. NBA potential was thrown around Garrett's neck early and I think that has colored our view of Garrett's progress and maybe his own view.

2 1/2 years in GS shouldn't be hesitating & thinking. He should be beyond that...he is slow.

We've got 1.5 years for it to shake out. I remember Miller getting abused by faster, more athletic players on more than one occasion. Even his Sr. year I recall Eric Coleman, POB and the Charles Barkley look alike for George Mason getting around Miller pretty well.
