Tourney should be for nit auto and seeding.
I understand this and have felt it many times myself, but I also like the auto bid for the Conference tournament because every team still has a shot, and something to play for, until the final weekend of the season. What if WSUs injuries would have lasted another 3 or 4 weeks and by the time we got everyone healthy we had dug a big enough hole that we couldn't win the conference outright? Wouldn't it be nice to have the tourney auto-bid so the team could still salvage the season and make the NCAA tournament? I see both sides though.

    • Anyway to expand and allow for both? Give top 4 seeds ( or whatever number) byes? I'd be open to anything that awards consisteny, and helps desperate teams.

      • I don't want the bar for at-large teams to get any lower. This year, WSU will have fought injuries, bad bounces, lots of close losses, and historic poor shooting nights, yet they are still going to get in. Every team that has any business thinking about a national championship will get in.

I like that every one of the 351 teams are technically eligible for a national championship on March 1. Conference tournaments are set to favor the best teams, and even after the auto bids are assigned, there are plenty of at-large bids to go around and ensure that no worthy team gets left out.

Computer rankings help UVa but here's where it breaks down for me:

          - 4 losses to non-NCAA teams. That's a LOT for a 1 seed.

          - losing road record

This does NOT surprise me even a little.

An alternative could simply not allow any team with .500 or below in their conference (including tournament) into the NCAA, except tourney winner. I'd even move the .500 up to .60 or .550. That should open up a few slots.

Just the athletic department shaving so they don't look like a bum.

                          • Warren Nolan has moved us out of the last 4 in and now has us safely IN as a 10 seed. At the beginning of the week, he had us OUT. http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2016/projection

                            • That has to be for clicks, right? I can't imagine the committee puts WSU vs KU in the 2nd round in back to back years.

                              • I think that we will have a different blue blood in our bracket this year.

I feel a possible UNC 2nd round matchup.
