Selection Sunday is here, and it looks like six teams are battling for three spots in the field. Who is in and who is out for the 2016 NCAA tournament?

But now, WSU is safely in as a 10 seed in his bracket. That's about 15 team jump in 7 days.

Keep trying to save face, losers.

I suppose you would also think the following foul discrepancies were bad?
      38 to 23
      27 to 18
      39 to 27
      27 to 19

      .....

Those were all in the Shox favor this year.

There are times where the refs get intimidated by Koch Arena and we get more calls than we should, IMO. There's also games like the @ Illinois State game, where IIRC we had a lot more fouls called on us.. But that's because we were taking jump shots while Illinois State was more aggressive. I don't know off the top of my head what games you're referring to, but I'd be curious as to what factors contributed to the discrepancies (one team fouling a lot late to force free throws, one team taking jump shots rather than driving and trying to get to the line, etc.)

However, the Seton Hall game was bad because we were being just as aggressive on the offensive end as they were, yet we didn't seem to be rewarded for it like them.

        • The number of fouls by it self doesn't tell the whole story and means nothing to me. As far as Seton Hall goes, WSU failed to adjust to what SH was trying to do and paid the price. The officiating sucked and a lot of hacks and whacks went uncalled which didn't help, but that's not the reason we lost.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

The Seton Hall game was not a quantative problem, it was qualitative problem. EXTRAORDINARILY qualitative.

That Nevada game was a joke of an example of when a team quits and was the reason for a massive foul discrepancy.

The lopsided foul calling was a HUGE factor in why we lost that game.

It is the ONLY game this season that we lost in which that was the case. But in THAT game, it was egregious.

                • I was at the Setin Hall game close to the court. The refs got progressively more inconsistent as the game wore on. By the end of the game it was apparent we were victim of a double standard , especially if you watch the game on replay. Offensive fouls calls caused a complete guess as to how to play defense the Seton Hall game.

That is the only game I really thought we deserved to win AND the refs had a effect on the outcome. The rest of the losses we **** the bed plenty ourselves. We played pretty darn good that Saturday

                  • I sat right behind a Seton Hall season ticket holder. He agreed we got jobbed by the officials but said it was commonplace in the Big East to have home cooking, almost expected. He said, sorry you all have to lose but this is how it works in the Big East, and he was completely serious.

                    • The bracket matrix had 76 brackets updated this morning.

                      6 seed - 1 - 1%
                      7 seed - 3 - 4%
                      8 seed - 9 - 12%
                      9 seed - 10 - 13%
                      10 seed - 22 - 29%
                      11 seed - 24 - 32%
                      Left Out - 7 - 9%

                      76 brackets total, average seed = 9.8

                      Since then...

Michigan, who was in about 2/3rds of the brackets, almost exclusively as an 11 seed, lost to Purdue by 17. They will fall out of many brackets.

Temple, who was in about 90% of the brackets as a 10, 11, or 12 seed, lost to UConn by 15. They will fall out of many brackets.

The only bid thief of the day was Fresno State. San Diego St was almost exclusively a 10, 11, or 12 seed, so they will fall out of many brackets, and where they stay in, they will generally be behind WSU. SDSU actually has only 3 top 100 wins, so WSU's 4 top 100 wins looks just fine in comparison. If SDSU gets in, its probably someone like Vandy that gets knocked out, not WSU. Fresno St. stole somebody's bid, but I doubt it is the Shox.

So basically, the Shox were in 91% of brackets this morning, and then things got better today. Only a few crazy outliers have the Shox out. No worries.

                      • By the way, I'm not even arguing the Seton Hall refs were necessarily great. I'm just laughing at the hypocrisy of someone who matter-of-factly states that a 31-18 foul spread in the box score is, in and of itself, somehow conclusive proof that the refs were UConn level bad.

I think you're putting a lot of words in his mouth.

I don't remember the foul numbers but I remember feeling strongly that Fred got jobbed several times.

By the way, what is our RPI following Seton Hall's BE Tourney win? Did it help us?

                            • It improved from .5815 to .5817, about the same bump as we've seen from most other opponents' victories this week.
