He may indeed even be a lurker, which I personally think is unfortunate if it's true. Can you imagine Nick Saban or Coach K at Duke reading their fanbases' counterparts of ShockerNet? No doubt about it: I wouldn't trade Marshall for anyone, and I think he ranks right with Gene Stephenson and Jim Schaus as WSU's best athletic hires of my lifetime (well, and Gordon Vadakin, except that Shocker bowling isn't really part of the athletic department). But, really -- ShockerNet?

My theory is last years perfection spoiled Gregg a little in terms of dealing with fans/media and thus he has reduced patience when needing to deal with it this year.

I wonder which would be preferable to a coach. A rabid fanbase with an amount of "housekeepers", or a Texas/OU type fanbase with half empty arenas every night......We're victims of our own success.

Most of those fanbases have as many critics online as they do butts in the seats.

From my PERSONAL experience the "style point" or "why didn't you blow them out" crowd is the people I know with little overall ncaa or basketball knowledge. My wife for example. My opinion is that for the most part the talent gaps have shrunken dramatically in college hoops over that last 10 years. This can be attributed to AAU, camps, etc. The main difference between the "have" and "have nots" is in my opinion is coaching and effort. The "haves" have it consistently and the "have nots" don't. That's said the "have nots" give all out 110% effort when facing a "have". That is why you see the Drakes of the world keeping it close with WSU but getting blown out by others. This is the "Super Bowl" effect people talk about. We are not the only top tier program that faces this. Kentucky (see Ole Miss) Kansas and the rest of the upper tier fsxe it as well. The wind is always strongest on the top of the mountain. Considering the alternative...I'd rather be in our shoes.
