  • I like Doug, but reading that article has given me pause. His true feelings shown through, tsk, tsk, you let me down brah. This is the problem non BCS programs will continuously fight and never get their due respect. Hell, Gonzaga has been the shining beacon of non BCS success for the past decade and-a-half yet they still can't get all the credit they deserve. Their lack of success in the post season keeps feeding these national media gurus, "see, I told you so" mindset.

We've turned a 180 the last 3 years in terms of national acknowledgement, but we need to remain Gonzaga style consistent. Until a non BCS wins the whole enchilada, views like Doug's will persist and there's nothing that can be one.

So you're telling me that allowing CU to join actually took the BIG EAASSSTTTT!!!!!!!!!! and turned it into a mid major conference?

CU must really be a drag

There's plenty of them out there. Then you could fire back with a "How am I supposed to believe anything you write when you rambled off so many inaccuracies in your tv broadcast?" or "Maybe you shouldn't comment about Wichita State and their ranking considering you couldn't complete basic, fundamental research during your tv broadcast. Maybe you should leave the tv color and sports writing alone and just concentrate on your radio show. It's pretty obvious you're in over your head."
I agree he was horrible calling our game. But I will give him a pass on the Scott City Iowa thing. Didn't he mention it being in Kansas several times, then one time at the end he slipped and said Iowa? Also in the #askron twitter convo w Baker he mentioned him having a good relationship with Gottlieb and the he apologized for the slip up. So I will give him a pass for that.

        • But the twitter thing was a fail for him. I did participate in it briefly. Will always defend/give my positive WSU take.

          • As I state earlier, he was fair in pointing out WSU's short comings, though it was based on one game. He mentions depth, but WSU goes 9 deep.

The primary irritation for me is that I wonder if he holds other top 20 teams to the same standards.

This. The question is not whether WSU has flaws but whether other (sometimes more) flawed ranked teams get the same scrutiny over their ranking.

              • Someone in that article is making stuff up.

"Much like the botched cover up of his Notre Dame expulsion, his sudden departure from ESPN to CBS Sports is suspect. So, as his beloved OSU Cowboys were upset by Memphis the same day he was calling the Wichita State game, he decided to rant on TV during the game as to why the Shockers aren’t really the 12th best team in the nation due to “perception".”

He gives no examples of why the move to CBS Sports is suspect. Maybe Doug wanted to call more games and be on TV more. Also, Oklahoma State didn't play until that night. Unless Doug can tell the future, Oklahoma State's future egg laying had no effect on his call of our game.

Gottlieb also made stuff up in his twitter rants. I like the part where he suggests that having an NBA team might have an impact on attendance for OSU. Everyone knows that college students in Stillwater are always making the drive to OKC to watch the Thunder especially during those midweek conference games.

I honestly have no idea why he moved (or until the game sunday that he moved)...but I did comment more than once during the game to the fiance about the fact that he was now on CBS Sports - and seemed a move not made by choice to me.

                  • I'm trying to get this straight. The guy offers a statement of pure opinion that many on this board share, and he gets vilified for it? I agree with ABC that the not-so-subtle subtext is that no other top ten team would subjected to the same scrutiny, and I believe that's unfair. But talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. I have seen the same comments posted in this very forum. I think Gottlieb is shrill, but this is picking the wrong battle, and very much makes us look like we have a massive little brother complex. Caring this much about what one guy says is not justifiable.

                        Agree with both replies.

Doug obviously didn't do his homework prior to the game and was shooting from the hip throughout. He was forming his opinion from one game, as the game progressed.

Getting into some sort of a pissing match with him on twitter though is juvenile. Let it go.

                        The solution?

                        Just keep winning, baby

                        That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

                        • All schools respond to media critics. So when KU for example responds do they have a little brother complex too?

                          • People should remember that these media types ALWAYS have the final word. If things don't go their way, they have a forum where they can launch the final verbal salvo. Remember Dan Patrick's disrespect of Gregg Marshall last year? They were able to hash things out during the interview, but after Gregg had hung up, Patrick made some closing and demeaning comments.

This is why I don't Twitter. I don't have the time or energy to spar with people who have no other life.

The Shocks are letting their play on the court do the talking right now - personally, I am enjoying that.

No, it makes them arrogant pricks, which is what they are no matter what they do.
