He's at NAIA now for a reason... dude had a great run but also had moments that showed why he was totally outclassed at this level.

You’re probably right. But still - I’d kill for his shooting right now. He had the weirdest shooting form, but he always seemed to make the toughest buckets.

Just wondered if you had any opinions on what record you would call good, expected, worse. It's all just for discussion.

I will tell you what record I think would be good, but I will also tell you that if it isn't achieved I am not going to panic. I think this team can finish 9-7 over the last 16 games and finish 17-13 in the regular season.

I'm meaning that the backup players from last year (Bell, Abidde, Ballard) are still getting healthy minutes. None of those players really saw the floor much last year. So its disappointing that he couldn't "over recruit" them. Though Ballard is probably a pass since he has a lot of potential and is harder to find big men.

Just looking at who he landed, Beverly, Degray and Ridgnal would be solid off the bench people for a competitive team. Cortes wouldn't probably get minutes on a decent team (at least what he's shown so far). Germany can't even get on the floor for this really bad team. Joy either (but at least he's young and raw so a bit of a pass there), and TBD on Bamba since he's redshirting.

I said it in on the offseason and i still believe it. We recruited a bunch of non AAC-Level starters. The problem is .. we were only returning one maybe 2 starters (Rogers and both Ballard and Pohto are in that "maybe" category). If you had to ask me which of our players could start on Memphis or FAU or even SMU .. only one I'd say confidently is Rogers.

So that's where my comment came from. We were starting from a collection of "backups" outside of Rogers. And we really didn't land anyone that was solidly above those players.

Honest question, do you really think this is how it works? Guy comes in late March and recruits 3-4 five star kids and gets a couple of stud transfers who come in and average 20+ points a game? Believe it or not, this is not how it works, particularly at a Wichita State.

The N Texas situation was WAY more similar to IB taking over HC3GM's squad, than what HCPM is dealing with. IB won the conference his first year as head coach ...

Not really. UNT lost their best player and had to replace 70% of their scoring. HCIB did not have to replace a single player that year he won the conference .. because he took over in November after everything was already done.

The situation in UNT is VERY close to HCPM's incoming situation except that UNT didn't make the move until April whereas HCPM was hired in March.

Mills would have been absolutely RIPPED on SN if he had gotten Flanagan out of the portal.

Mills didn't have any roster players that would inspire a desire to play with them when he got his staff together and was able to start recruiting.

We've seen what Acy can do developing Abidde and Ballard. Those guys are light years ahead of where they were last year. We haven't seen what Acy can do recruiting.

so you are saying Mills was unable to convince anyone to play here last year due to the players here? Then why would we expect any better this year? We are worse this year than last year. That's just a really really really dumb excuse.

I don't think Mills had many choices from his ORU players. I would have done just what Abmas did, rather than go to a re-building team for my senior year. Two others of his top 4 were seniors and another was a SG and that role was already filled by Rogers. Fifth in the pecking order was a 2/1 took over at point. #6, small forward, left for Loyola and he's playing less for them than he did ORU.

Yes, but since they promoted an assistant you can also say that they were ahead of recruiting to N Texas than what Mills had to do at WSU. Hodge was already recruiting to UNT when he was promoted.
