Who should be Wichita State's Head Coach?

3G is a great man.

He has his shortcomings and has made mistakes, as all of us have, and at times I didn’t agree with some of the things I heard going on.

With that being said, he more than made up for his shortcomings with his work off the court and in the community - even if he would’ve been a mediocre coach.

But *** ****, I think some people on this board can’t separate our program from 3G. As much as 3G was able to achieve here, a lot of it was because of the resources our program gave him. It was a mutually beneficial situation.

We’re going to be okay without him, eventually. College basketball will always have a tide that brings success and droughts. The program is in a much better state than the 90s, overall. Wichita State is still a household name and still respected around the country. Attendance is down, but it is everywhere. Once IB is gone, it’ll trickle back in.

If you don’t believe that, then what separates you from those KU fans who talked down to us for my entire lifetime, and what truly separates our program from UNI, ECU, and Rice?

Gregg Marshall is the best coach to ever coach here. He will be appreciated and loved by our community for a lifetime. He deserves to be defended from slander and stood up for by us fans. But continuously comparing situations to what he would’ve done, inserting him into future coaching discussions, etc is a slap in the face to the program. Hating on some of the greatest players to ever wear a Shocker jersey for not running to his defense when they are professionals with images that determine their careers is disgraceful. (Not talking about Shaq). Overseas basketball is a fickle business, and they don’t play around with drama queens and public image distractions over there.

There will be a time when 3G is welcomed back into the roundhouse with many of his former players by his side for reunions filled with joy and happy memories. But the longer the dead ****ing horse is beat, the longer away that will be.

Please, for the love of God let it rest. To all the posters with the anti-3G agenda, you got what you wanted. He’s gone and he’s not coming back. Stop rehashing this garbage so that we can just appreciate his work instead of having to defend him. You can appreciate it too - even if there is a little asterisks in your head. His former players did. The guys you rooted for and supported and claim to be looking out for and defending - isn’t that enough?

I keep thinking about the profile of a coach that Saal is going to go after. You have to think it’s gotta be someone quite proven, right? Which makes me think Griffin is out of the equation unfortunately. It does lend itself to Mark Turgeon, but again, I think he’s going to want to establish a new legacy here at wichita state

I have watched it. Then I read the follow up interview where he clarified he never saw anybody get punched and that Shaq was alone.

I think he was quoted or on another show/podcast were his gave yet another slightly different account.

Poor Bear and Marshall used to joke about his heritage all the time and it was usually PB who started it. That is coming from inside the program. GTFO with that even being a thing. Marshall was foul mouthed and crude sometimes (not unusual in that profession) but is as far from being a racist as you can get.

I hope this was addressed to the OP, as I was trying to say the same thing, but not as blunt!

I'd be good with any of those. I'm not sure any of those fall into home run territory though. They are all solid ground rule doubles.

At the same time, it's hard to know your realistic home runs without knowing the money situation. They may be the affordable home runs.

HCIB continue to try and save his job. Two wins in a row with one being road win. WSU is now only 1 game out from finishing in 4th place. With 3 of the 4 remaining games being winnable.

To tie for 4th place we would have to have a better record than Cincinnati (they own the tie-breaker) or tie with Temple (we own the tie-breaker). Two of Temples final four games are against teams in the bottom tier, one against the top tier and one versus Temple.. We have three of our final four games against the top tier and one in the bottom tier. Cincinnati has two versus bottom tier teams, one against a top tier team and one versus Temple. The odds are very long for us to finish in the top 5.

It's not all that outlandish. We probably won't go 3-1 but we could possibly go 2-2. And if UCF could pull off the upset at a struggling Temple, then that would probably do it.

To have a chance at top 5, WSU must win 3 of 4 and Temple needs to lose their 2 road games against Cincy and Tulane. Temple should win their home games. UCF has the tie breaker with WSU and their schedule gives them a good chance to win 4 of their final 5 games which would give them 10 wins and tie them with WSU if WSU wins 3 of 4. WSU needs to hope that Cincy wins at UCF today.
