I hope we hear something soon. And I hope it's someone that was worth waiting for.

If what I'm hearing is correct- the unnanounced opponent isn't a panty-dropper, but it's not a dud either. Should be at least somewhat helpful to the RPI.

I've heard pretty much the same thing. Not a bad game, but not one that's going to excite anybody.

              • The schedule isn't that impressive so far, but we have a lot of new pieces to work into the line-up so I'm not terribly unimpressed. But it is better than what most of the Valley has released.

                • Hi all....Air Force fan here.

Looking forward to the game here at Clune Arena at the Academy. Find the 'mixed' comments above intriguing about the differing views on the matchup....from 'why that bad team' to 'lets not overlook them'.

I think that this will be a game that your coach will not overlook and one the fans should not either. Unlike your team that is rebuilding or reloading (as commented on earlier in this thread with the loss of your top five scorers from last year), Air Force returns all starters from the beginning of MWC Conference play to include 4 senior starters who have been 3 or 4 year starters. Basicly lost one senior that contributed until having a season ending injury at the beginning of January before conference play began. In addition, last year's first five players off the bench for most of the season were freshmen.

Note, these were not freshmen like at most schools. Unlike their counterparts at Wichita St or elsewhere, they were not 3-4 star recruits and they didn't participate in any summer basketball, rather showing up at the Academy in June for two months of basic training then right into academics which begin the first week or so of August. Their basketball conditioning, skills and learning the new system didn't begin until August. Fast forward now this year and you will see a much more experienced team off the bench plus the starters mentioned above. Even with poor experience we had, we managed to endure a mid-season coaching change and still beat a top 25 San Diego State and to take UNLV and Colorado to overtime (all three NCAA teams).

I look forward to the game with you at the Academy and hope we can give you a good game and expect we will. As one poster said above, we do run a hybrid Princeton/Motion offense with backdoor cuts and using the 3-ball. You'll see a combination of matchup zone interspersed with man-to-man, and do that at 7000' altitude. As is often said: Welcome to the Academy where the Air is rare. Our board is not too active during the off-season, but stop by and say hi. Air Force BBall Forum

                    • /thanks for stopping by! We are always appreciative of knowledgable and courteous fans. Looking forward to the matchup and wish you all the best this year.

By the way...nothing against Air Force this year, it's just that the past two years have been marque match-ups for us in the MVC/MWC challenge.

                      • I am hoping that any concerns about our strength of schedule will be put to rest by some big surprises this year from the teams people hold in question and AFA having an awesome season would be music to my ears. I love hearing reasons to believe from an AFA fan. As you said, ltc, go falcons. Just don't beat us. Hehe

                        • October 6th I'll be out in the Springs to watch the mighty Midshipmen whale on the Falcons. Always have a good time meeting my uncle and cousin (both grads of AFA actually my uncle was in the first graduating class and later taught there) and playing a little golf on either one of the beautiful courses on base.

                          • BTW when people said AFA might join the mvc, which died I believe...or did it? I was thinking that might not be so bad.

Not going to happen. If we add teams it should only be teams that immediately improve the conference or have the potential to do so. AFA does neither. I also doubt that the poor sisters would ever vote to add a school to the West. I respect AFA for what it is, but an improvement to the MVC they are not

Time will tell if we can and will raise the bar this fall for AF hoops. Don't think moving to the MVC was ever really an issue, travel demands/geography really didn't make sense for our non-football sports. Reference the strength of AF being brought 'if' a merger happened...while we have been down for the last few years we did (from 2003-4 season to the 2006-7 season, not too long ago) make it to two NCAA tourneys and invites twice to the NIT playing and losing in the NIT semi's by 1 to Clemsen in 2007.

If you can make it to a USAFA football game this fall please stop by our tailgate...it's the biggest 'unofficial tailgate' around with up to 140 folks when playing Army or Navy. Check it out here on how to get there. See ya and 'Beat Navy'.
