And CUSA wouldn't be worth the move if they lose a few key basketball schools anyway.

I don't believe it would ever be a possibility without football. With that said I disagree that it wouldn't be worth the move.

Baseball would be an exponential jump and in basketball I would take Memphis, UAB, UTEP, Tulsa over Creighton, Missouri St, UNI, ISU-B any day.

A chance to improve in baseball and stay the same in basketball if not better while getting to switch from the frigid north to the south. Sign me up! It will never happen however.

Boston Globe today saying big east has eyes on UCF, SMU, and Temple if Navy decides to stay put as indy. Apparently AFA isn't that interested. Those three would get BEAST back to 18 total and full. So if that happens (which I doubt, seems like nothing happens the way they report) then CUSA basketball would still be what I would consider equal move in basketball or slightly better.

I think it all depends on Memphis. I know their football isn't great, but if somebody takes them, than CUSA isn't the same. Who from CUSA has been mentioned as possibly leaving? At one point or another I've heard Houston, SMU, East Carolina and Central Florida. Can't remember if Memphis has really been talked about or not. SMU is looking to get out and I'd bet Central Florida will be gone. Don't know about the others.

With the current staff, playing more games in the South would definitely be a plus. I don't think it does anything for travel really as the conference goes much farther east and about as far south as the Valley goes north.

Tulsa would appear to be the only easy drive for travel. The two Houston schools and Tulane would be the next closest and they're probably about like Iowa or maybe even Illinois schools. Travel as a whole would be greater. That effects the nonrevenue sports.

The markets are better than the Valley. I'm not looking up those numbers, but Houston is nice. Not sure Tulane really gets much from being in New Orleans. Memphis and being able to get more pub in Alabama and Mississippi would be nice for the current staff. We already recruit against some of those teams.

I expect CUSA to lose at least two teams in the near future. I don't think they'll be adding any nonfootball teams, but a lot about that conference depends on who leaves and who they replace them with. As long as Memphis is still there, they'll be ok. But Tulsa and the others have to keep up. UTEP doesn't have a good track record, Houston is way down. UAB is pretty solid. Outside of that, I'm not sure. It'd probably make a lot more sense for baseball than basketball (depending on who stays) but basketball is going to dictate where we are.

I would love for us to decide to bring back football and have a conference add us based on that, but that's not going to happen.

2. Big time money comes from Football and TV revenue.
3. We do not have football
4. We are not being courted to join ANY leagues.
5. Asking to join a league could rock the boat we are sitting in.
6. The Valley sucks, but not as bad as the SWAC.

People sometimes talk about a basketball only conference. I'm assuming no football schools at all. If my calculations are correct, that would give us a list of 95 schools across the country. Most are NOT attractive for a basketball only league. Travel would be problematic in order to get such a league with enough quality to be worth it. At least if we were involved with it. You'd get to pick 10 or 12 or whatever from the following list. I think it has everybody that qualifies.

If we lose CU or MSU, this conference takes a tremendous shot to the gut.

The MVC cannot afford to lose one of it's top three or four schools and remain a viable conference

If that happens, this university will need to face a most serious decision as to whether we stand pat once again and forever, or bring football back and move onward.

Both directions have their negatives and dangers for our entire sports program. But, in my opinion, only one offers a long range chance for survival.

I don't know if you'd need to eliminate all football schools. You could include FCS division football schools as they would find leagues to play football only. Eliminating the far east and west coast, you could still include select Valley teams, Dayton, Butler, and Valpo.

Let's see. That could give you WSU, MSU, UNI, CU, Dayton, Butler, Xavier, St. Louis, DePaul, Oral Roberts, maybe Ill St and Bradley.
