  • I'm sticking with my original "KU and KSU to the MVC" concept, except throw in a new twist. Let all these "leftover" schools form a football only conference. If this new group could somehow get a BCS/AQ bid, good for them (I don't see it). But then they could join the MVC for all sports except football and maintain some sense of fiscal sanity. Think about it... why would South Florida want to send their volleyball team to Manhattan, or vice versa? Go regional for everything but football.

And along these same lines, I sure hope the AD at WSU is awake and paying attention, because this is going to flow down to us. With the Big EAst going to be the first to implode, I see the basketball only version making a power grab for some of the A10 teams. The A10 with 16 teams spread all over the country NY - NC - Missouri - Wisc is ripe to be busted up. If Mizzou goes SEC, then you have Ku, KSU, and ISU isolated in the midwest with nowhere to go. We should be trying to pull together those three, Creighton, Marquette, Depaul, Dayton, Xavier, StL, and a few select to others and get a midwest oriented power basketball conference.

    • Now, it looks like UT, TT, OU and OSU to the PAC

The Pac-12 is working on a deal to bring Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the conference, according to a report by the American-Statesman.

KU and KSU folks have to be getting nervous. And they should be.
The Big East does not seem like a good option b/c they are imploding faster than the Big 12. UCONN is now working hard to get to the ACC.

This conference reallignment is nothing new, really.

Think about Louisville going from the MVC to the Metro to the Great Midwest to Conference USA to the Big East alll within 30 years.

South Carolina went from the ACC to Independment to the Metro the SEC.

Also, I wonder how the super conference will work.

The only time there's been a 16 team conference was when the WAC expanded in the late 90s to 16 teams, only to have the big dogs from that conference break off to form the Mountain West after just a few years. One of the reasons cited for the break-up of the 16-team WAC was the division of money and the costs associated with the non-revenue sports.

And the super-duper Big East conference is already breaking up.

      • Pac 12 evidently in talks now to "acquire" Texas, TTech, OU and OSU.

Tomorrow is going to be very interesting.

        • If those four go to the Pac, that would be worst case scenario for Ku and Ksu. You know Mizzou and West Virginia would jump to the SEC. UConn and Rutgers to the ACC. That only leaves the B10 and they want Notre Dame... heck, they may not add anyone else. Wow! This is so not good for our sister institutions.

          • It's being reported in Texas that this is a done deal except for the formalities. That's also being reported from Pac-1x sources. That doesn't mean it's going to happen, but the rumors are getting hotter and more detailed.

Supposedly, there's a deal worked out between UT, Pac-1x and ESPN that makes the LHN work for both Texas and the Pac-1x. UT has to give up exclusive control and share revenue from the LHN.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

All that has happened so far is that the respective Boards of Regents are voting to allow the Presidents to negotiate. Granted, that is usually a formality. Reports this morning on KC Radio is that it will take at least a week for all of the schools on both ends dot the I's and cross the T's to make sure they don't have the same legal exposure as aTm.

Also, there is speculation that the remaining 5 teams could decide to pursue schools such as SMU, Houston, Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida to form a Big East-like conference that is lower tier BCS football but upper tier in basketball. That would get the conference back to 10 teams. Add Memphis and possibly TCU to get to 12.

The push behind this is to preserve the basketball status as much as possible and keep the B12 tournament in KC and possibly move the B12 HQ back to KC.

And apparently, there is still some speculation that Texas may still want to keep the B12 intact... Mack Brown, the Texas FB coach has definitely expressed his preference to keep the B12 together. stay tuned...

                  • Moving from Big East to ACC could destroy Pitt basketball

Dixon's success against Big East heavyweights such as Syracuse and Connecticut has made him among the most coveted coaches. If he perceives the Pitt job as weakened because of a move away from the Big East, he might be induced to move away, as well.

                    • Big East, Big 12 talk merger if Texas, Oklahoma leave Big 12

NEW YORK -- A person involved in the discussions tells the Associated Press that school and conference officials from the Big East and Big 12 have been discussing ways to merge what's left of the two leagues if Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12.

The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk publicly about what is going on behind the scenes, said Monday there has been dialogue between athletic directors and high-level officials in the conference offices.

The biggest thing that would hurt Pitt basketball would be if Dixon left, not moving to the ACC. The whole article read like it was sponsored by the Big East. With all the jobs Dixon has turned down and making it known last year that he didn't want Pitt to join the Big 10, where is he going to find a better conference? Syracuse (it's located in NY) doesn't seem to think the ACC will hurt them in recruiting NY and the surrounding area, why would it hurt Pitt? Also UConn appears to want to go to the ACC.

                        • Syracuse and Pitt should be able to improve their recruiting. There's more status in playing i the ACC than in the BEast. They should be able to get into the hunt for more of the absolute top-tier players.

KU fans are not happy with the potential of merging with the remnants of the BEast.

                          • Not surprised KU fans would be unhappy. That "leftovers" conference is in no way, shape, or form an AQ football conference. And if you're not in an AQ football conference, you are by default in a mid-major basketball conference. What a blow to the ego that must be.

Especially if the ACC cherry-picks Rutgers and UConn as their next 2 members, and that looks like a solid possibility.

Football is driving this and KU FB is a wasteland. It would be ironic if Lew Perkins was the guy who killed WSU's FB program, and then turned out to be the guy who fired Mangino and hired Gill at precisely the wrong time and took KU out of the BCS landscape.

KU does have a shot at the BiG, but there's speculation the BiG might want ISU for geography. There's also speculation that the BiG might want to stop at 14 members.

The remnants of the B12 being proctive isn't looking great for the remaining members of the B12
