It will. And, the Big East will break-up. The question is really about when not if anymore.

Both the Big 12 and Big East are littered with football membership just looking for a place to go. It appears that they'll both take measures to delay this (Big East is laughably talking adding Army and Navy)

Regardless, what will happen is two to four members of both the Big 12 and Big East will eventually (and Big East could still happen this year). At that point, they fail, the Big East splits, and the remaining football schools in the two conferences join up with the conference usa programs and go from there as sub-bcs "high major" leagues similar to the MWC.

the big east would then be the private 8 + Butler + Xavier + Id guess two more (Richmond and UMass would be my guess)

        • I think OU is now in the driver's seat in the B8+. If OU gets what they want out of the B8+ (Fire Beebe, revenue shring and conference control of the LHN -is what I'm guessing there - neuter Bevo), they will stay.

If OU doesn't get what they want, my guess is they set up a package deal with Mizzou, OSU, and aTm and those 4 take the SEC up to 16 teams. Take those 4 out of the B8+ and AQ status is questionable. The remaining football is UT and - uh - hmmm
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

          • I am watching UNL play at Wyoming right now on TV. Wyoming had to add 3000 seats to their 29000 seat football stadium to accomodate the UNL fans.

The game is out of hand 38-14 in favor of UNL, but that is not detering the Wyoming fans.

They are extremely excited about having a #9 big 10 team playing at their home field. They are still cheering strong and it looks like nobody has left early.

It is about the most exciting 38-14 football game I have ever seen.

If we end up with four 16 team super conferences I don't think we will see any more UNL at Wyoming games (we don't see enough as it is).

            • Rumors on the Slant have Louisville officially being extended an invite to the Big 12 with talk of BYU, West Virginia and Cincy.

I guess the conference will now evenly split monies from Tier 1 and Tier 2 revenue. Of course, some of them are also talking about TCU but doubt Texas would allow it.

Surprised that UNL would go on the road to Wyoming. Maybe as a "home" game for Western Nebraska.

Nebraska fans bought 400 season Wisconsin tickets just for their one home game.

                      • And the beat goes on:

Still an awful lot of moving parts.

Apparently, the Big East currently imposes a $5 million exit fee and a 27-month waiting period for members currently wanting to leave.

                        • Here is another article discussing the Big East's situation and goals and mentions the Big East adding KU, KSU and Mizzou and how they would make that work. They talk about a 20 team basketball league with 12 football playing members.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — It’s all about Nov. 1, 2012. That’s the date the Big East Conference becomes a TV free agent. The league’s goal is to be able to present such a solid, fa…

Are we coming down to a battle between the Big East and the Big XII to see which conference survives?

Could be the SEC, ACC and PAC-10 will try to hold theri water until this shakes out and make their final moves depending on how this shake out.

                          • I wonder if some point Conference USA might consider adding non-football playing schools, especially if the Big East picks off a couple of their schools.

Right now Conference USA has 12 members all with football programs.

East Carolina has announced it has applied for membership in the Big East, and other Conference USA schools also could be considered, including Houston, Memphis and Central Florida.

I would think Wichita State, Creighton, Missouri State and perhaps St. Louis would be right in their wheelhouse if this would come to pass. I don't know if MSU football is a plus or minus.

Granted we do nothing for them football-wise but they are not going to be in the BCS mix anyway. IMHO we immediately add to their basketball, baseball and volleyball profile.

No football then you really don't exist to even CUSA or MWC.

                              • And CUSA wouldn't be worth the move if they lose a few key basketball schools anyway.
