I'm not sure it's all that relevant in softball and baseball since it's road only every other year, and is WSU really worse for a division with SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane and Memphis as opposed to another east coast game for travel?

      • Gawd, this would be wonderful if it were true. IIRC, we would be a good fit for the AAC. Our school, academically, is not as strong as the strongest AAC schools, I'm thinking we would be somewhere in the low-to-middle part of the conference.

But at least we would be able to rid ourselves of the MVC. Being in the MVC is somewhat like having an STD.

It's not true until you hear the Wichita State administration deny the rumors while fidgeting in their pockets, then respond with the all important "This is the first I have heard of it" followed by another denial. The coup de grace is when the weak denial is replaced by a no comment.

When your ad speaks of being in closed door meetings with another conference and your governor announces that it's all but a done deal, you're just like Mizzou, stuck for a few more years.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

But Tulsa pretends to bring football.

            • Aside from basketball goals, this would be GM'S legacy pinnacle! A story like this makes me hope that our administration is full bore lobbying the AAC to make this happen. 2 or 3 years ago, this was a pipe dream... Cherry on top for all Shocker fans.

              • If there is any chance this is true, I hope it is and it happens asap. I'd hate to get Elgin'd over false rumors. Elgin'd one last time on our way out? Much easier to take.

                • By the way, and in case anyone was wondering, Houston is about 600 miles from ICT. Tulane is further.

But SMU (roughly 400 miles), Tulsa (about 160) and Memphis are probably at least as close as most of the Valley schools, so we would be a decent fit for that division geographically.

Remembering from my old Santa Fe railroad days, Newton is 639 miles from the terminal of that used-to-be railroad (Chicago). So we're already traveling roughly 600 miles to play LOLoyola once a year.

Of all the ways and years we've tried to make an analog between WSU and the MVC, this is quite possibly the most succinct to date.

                      • Rothstein is legit, I trust his reporting on this.

Now whether the league administrators and presidents have the steam built up to ram this thing through....

                        Fingers crossed. All of them.

                        • We fit in nicely with the western division from a geographic standpoint.

Thats what has me excited. Rothstein is legit, and cites 4 different sources. I never understood why the AAC wouldnt want to have an even balance of teams for basketball. It does make sense and is completely plausible.

Another one, which I haven't read:
