  • I would like to propose a trade. Big East's DePaul to the MVC in exchange for Wichita State to the Big East.

I would probably prefer the AAC, but I'd go for the above trade as well. (Yes, I know it's a pipedream).

The Valley would probably love to have another Illinois team. They could then add Illinois-Chicago and Chicago State and they would have a near monopoly on that huge Chicago market.

Absolutely, 1972 -- each of those teams probably boasts several dozen fans who would hurry to their TVs to watch.

One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

The new BE doesn't have the same tv exposure they once had.

"(The Shockers) are in a position where they could be looking at a domination of our league for certainly the next few seasons, if not longer," Elgin said. "I don't know why that is not enough. Particularly since I don't know of a basketball league where they wouldn't be considerably more of an outlier than they are now."
Because after a while total domination becomes boring. This year has been amazing, but I don't want to sit through 18 games every year where we destroy decent to mediocre to downright terrible teams. Instead of saying that we should be happy about our position he should be talking about what's being done to raise the level of competition in the MVC. It sounds like he's given up on trying to convince other valley schools to put more into their athletics. This is pathtic.

            • The other issue that isn't getting talked about is stipends.

What is WSU and the MVC going to do when the big schools
vote to pay their players a stipend???

It could happen this summer and start in the fall.

OK, Elgin can claim that no single institution defines a conference but the Valley is different than a lot of conferences in that there is a large disparity in basketball program dollars allocated. When WSU puts almost twice as much money into its program as the second place school then one institution can define a conference. With that said Doug was certainly pleading his case in that article.

                • Some great PC statements made by Sexton. "We LOVE the MVC, but...." It is quite clear that it sounds that Sexton would love to get that phone call. Elgin is without a doubt shaking in his boots.. I think he know if we leave the conference is done. Absolutely done. All others that are worth anything would abandon ship. I know MSU is looking at a new home for their football team and new stadium. Others would also find new places to go.

I do find it interesting that Elgin would make the comments he did that WSU would win the league every year. Even though I agree, I just find it interesting that a commish would make those comments about a single team, a real put down to the other schools IMO.

Not sure about the Valley but Sexton has said in the past they would want to pay the stipend, that it's about competing at the top.

                      Translation... We want out.

                        • Reminds me of that classic statement made by Texas A&M AD... We love our 100 year tradition we have with Texas and will never abandon it.

                          • Actually, what I think this is:

To the Valley: "We love you guys!"

To other conferences listening: "Please don't dismiss us. We would like to leave."

100% agree, being king in a conference is great... But if you don't see a truck full of $$$ backing up to your loading dock then why not look elsewhere. Not sy'n... Just sy'n.
You didn't revive anything. This thread is 70 pages long. Here is an older 33 page realignment thread (https://shockernet.net/node/11399). And there's an even older 45 page realignment thread somewhere (which I'm not going to look for). Realignment is obviously something that has been on the minds of, and discussed ad nauseum, by WheatShocker fans for many years. It's always nice to have fans of teams from other conferences join in the discussion.

He is totally right. The Valley is NOT defined by one institution. It is defined by the other 9.
