MSU fires Hinson because he can't get them into the NCAA tourney with a 24 rpi. Then wins the MVC one year with Hinson's recruits, still doesn't make the NCAA's, loses that coach and then becomes a perennial Thursday night team.
Evansville gives Simmons an extension because he was able to get them into some tournament that starts with a "C".The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

We do realize that not every school as it as good as us, right? Marty Simmons isn't exactly John Wooden, but what's the alternative? Fire the guy and take a chance on someone whose performance is unpredictable? Can't blame UE for extending him. They know what they're getting. Not every school can get a Gregg Marshall. If you hire a crappy coach after Simmons, then you get rid of him in 4 years and try again. And you're literally no worse off. But eventually, you might hit. Maybe the 1st time. Maybe the 5th time. But eventually you might hit.
Not everyone is as fortunate as WSU, or can get Gregg Marshall.
But lots of schools are as fortunate as Winthrop, and they did get Gregg Marshall.

Also of interest was that Marty interviewed for the Wisconsin Green Bay job after this last season.

Now, granted, they had some terrible years before that. But it's not like they're a perennial Bradley or Missouri State."In God we trust, all others must bring data." - W. Edwards Deming

Even those last "good" years under Marty, they have a .569 win % against D1 competition (and even that includes 8 CIT wins against marginal competition), with an average NonCon SOS of 271, including 313 and 312 the last 2 years, when everyone knew they were going to be decent/good.Last edited by Cdizzle; September 26, 2016, 12:28 PM.
