  • It seems to be mostly targeting people that have paid for 20 years or more. My question is why don't the schools have to pay the amounts back. Why do the taxpayers have to shoulder that load?

Clearly the schools benefited from the loan proceeds. They and the borrowers are the only ones involved. What am I missing?

You cannot ask intellectuals, and those with the enormous resposibility of providing advanced education, to be fiscally responsible. It would quash everything that is great about the liberal arts education in America. Instead, we need to encourage creativity, we need to foster personal expression and growth, and we need to stimulate the self worth of our youth. You cannot do that by constraining education with fiscal responsibility. That is misogynistic, racist and fascist.

We need more engineers that have 30 credits in fine arts. We need more accountants with philosophy backgrounds, and we need more tenure!
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

And don’t forget, these intellectuals have lobbied for and won the ability to borrow more than they need for school to cover their everyday life. I would bet at most only 70% of student loans went to pay for school.

Good point. Since we are all socialists now, the schools sitting on MASSIVE endowments should simply write their debt off as bad debt and move along. Isn't that how their professors are teaching the kids it's supposed to work?

Well said! There area few problems that need to be solved prior to addressing the current student debt problem:

            1. Individuals need to be able to file bankruptcy to void these loans.
            2. The schools need to co-sign on these loans

Those two things would stop the frivolous degrees and the extra curricular fees included in your tuition. It would also make the schools compete for students that are likely to succeed.

Once that is done, then we can discuss how to handle current issues with student loan already accrued.

It really is. Talk about the 'backs of the poor' trope.

President lied about Hunter’s laptop, Afghanistan, COVID, illegal immigration, inflation, border security, and voting integrity. And the new White House new priority? Combatting disinformation.

I don't disinformation means what they think it means.

                            • President Biden is on the verge of rewriting a longstanding social contract by deciding that taxpayers should repay significant portions of student loans.
