My guess is Jody is done for 2013. Keeping 13 scholarship players happy is a tough enough task. Adding one or two more to the end of the bench certainly isn't going to make that chore any easier plus adds some substantial costs to a low-revenue sport. I agree with Jody that a roster of 13 should be more than adequate in terms of numbers.

On top of that Jody is already dealing with an imbalance in the numbers of players in the out-going senior and incoming freshman classes as those make up half the roster. Not sure if Jody is really too worried about that but my personal preference would be to see a little more balance in each class. 3 to 4 players in each graduating class would be ideal.

I think a class imbalance is easier to deal with in the Men's game where you can go to the JUCO ranks for quality players to fill in your roster. Right now we have a little bit of a bulge in the python.

So far recruiting the JUCO ranks for the Shockers has not yielded very much success. Hopefully, Jamillah Bonner will prove to be the exception to that rule.

Bottom line is I would not hold my breath that their will be any additions to this already large freshman class.

I'll take your word for it. My comments have nothing to do with the quality of players these two young ladies may be. It's a numbers game and the inn is full. If Relina and Cheyenne are as good as advertised I am assuming they have signed or will sign LOI's this week. I wish them luck wherever they decide to play college ball.

Jody does have offers on the table to 3 Wichita area kids for future recruiting classes. Time will tell how that goes.

          • I have to admit that I do not follow girls high school basketball very closely so I would not put a great deal of weight on my opinions about it. I know we have had some very good playes and teams in recent years in the City League, particulary at Heights. I also know there have been some really bad teams in the City League.

In any case according to this Wichita Eagle store -- http://www.varsitykansas.com/2012/11...k=omni_popular -- the following are the expected area women's college basketball signings:

Missouri State - Katie Palmer, Heights
Oklahoma State - Katelyn Loecker, McPherson
Pittsburg State - Paige Lungwits, Maize
            Washburn - Jharian Bowen, Heights
            Washburn - Jada Lynch, Heights

So Heights continues to lead they way and unfortunately Kip Pulliam apparently guides his kids away from Wichita State.

However, only two D-1 signings expected out of the City League and and local area (if you want to count McPherson as local) is interesting. Perhaps more signings will come in the Spring or is this an indication that this class wasn't particularly loaded with D-1 talent? The same seems to be true on the boys side of the ledger.

            • Here is some video of Shocker recruit 5-10 G Jaleesa Chapel (#25) out of Dekaney HS in Spring, Texas from her junior year:

According to the press release she is 5-10.

The Butler County transfer out of Wichita Southeast, Jamillah Bonner, is list at 5-8 as is Marissa Preston of Staley High School in Kansas City, MO.

                    • Jamillah Bonner has had somewhat of a rough and chaotic road on her way to playing D-1 basketball at Wichita State:

This will be the 4th consecutive year that we have had at least on player on the roster with a child. Juggling school, basketball and motherhood has to be a challenge but Alicia handled it well and Darice seems to be handling it well. In some instances it will make for a more mature, focused and determined individual. Sounds like that will be the case with Jamillah.

                      • I have not been able to find much on Morgan Landers, the 6-2 post player out of Burleson Texas High School.

Her numbers from her junior year (8.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.9 spg, 0.9 bpg) are nothing to get real excited about. Jody may be recruiting potential upside with Morgan. She said she though Morgan could be an impact player and had a high BBIQ. Let's hope Jody found a player flying under the radar in Morgan.

I did find a photo in the Burleson newspaper. She is the blonde in the middle:

Morgan also has a younger sister, a 6-0 guard who plays for Burleson.

                        • Former Shocker BreAnna Dawkins, who left after her freshman year, is averaging 15.7 PPG in her 1st three games for North Texas as a redshirt sophomore.

Looks like Krystle Henderson ended up at Trinity Vally CC in Athens, Texas about 60 miles or so SE of Dallas.

Trinity Valley won its 6th NJCAA D-I national championship last year going undefeated. They knocked of previously undefeated Hutch Juco for the title. The late Kurt Budke of Oklahoma State coached at Trinity Valley I believe.

Here is a little blurb on Jaleesa that I ran across that lists her at 5-9.

Jaleesa Chapel (5'9-2013- Dekaney/Wichita State University) is a long wiry athlete, runs and jumps like a gazelle. With Jaleesa's steady improving skill sets and huge upside, expect a lot from her in the upcoming seasons.
                            http://www.hbablazers.com/Girls.html (See bottom of page)

Jaleesa sounds a little bit like a Haleigh Lankster. About the same size. Athletic. If she can develop into anything close to what Haleigh was we will be very pleased.

It's nothing like it is for WSU Men's BB. There are a group of sleuths there who keep track of anyone that WSU is looking at & even with all that effort, they are usually not 100 % sure of who is going to come to WSU. But, they are usually pretty close.

For women's basketball at WSU, it is a totally different situation. I talked to Jody about it at the SASO Ice Cream social & what she told me is sufficient to be able to say here that you are all going to be very pleasantly surprised when the LOI signing period comes along in Nov 2012!
Ok, @xazshox, now that the recruiting class has been announced perhaps you can share with us the inside information you were given by Jody. On paper it looks like a decent signing class although you never know for sure.
We knew of Moriah Dapprich, Briana Jones, Kayla White and Marissa Preston prior to their signing. The unknowns were Jamilla Bonner, Jaleesa Chapel and Morgan Landers.

Just trying to figure out where the real sizzle is in this large recruiting class. Can you add any details to help out those of us on the dark side. Thanks.

Just saw the recruiting class rankings. We are up there!! It doesn't matter. what do we do with the players. B. Dawkins is tearing it up at another Div I school, Crystal Henderson doing great at a JUCO. I will give HCJA some credit; Kelsey was some sleeper who came out of no where and now shows a little potential. I think the player has to play her style. I had higher hopes in the summer. Mid MVC standings will tell the tale. So hard to play in this system.
