The comments by his coach that, "He's an ALL RIGHT player," Arritt said. "He's GOT TO PROVE HIMSELF. He's a big kid, he just DOESN'T PLAY HARD ENOUGH," sure sound to me like big negatives, I've never heard any.

Other than being 6-9, why are we hot on this kid?

He was a top 150 player last season. He has some raw skills.

I think we've been too used to hearing nothing but hype and praise from high school coaches. This guy is telling it like it is.

Agree, Royal, and we should really appreciate the coach telling it "like it is." But it still doesn't give a warm fuzzy for the kid's potential.

A coach might very well make these comments to the young man to motivate him. But it is totally another thing for the coach to publicly release such statements where they may be reviewed by schools who are considering offering him a scholarship.

Sure, through motivaton and good coaching, some young men will respond favorably. But it is never easy and can consume an inordinate amount of someone's time.

I'm sure our new coaching staff will obviously weigh the positives and negatives and will determine whether the risk is worth it.

Top 150 and 6'10"? There seems to be potential there. Maybe his coach just does things a different way.

Lots of talented High School basketball players can get by on having a little more talent or height in High School while being a little lazy overall, but not so when you play D-1 ball in college.

It is faster paced, more demanding, and a lot more rougher in D-1 ball, as Durley is finding out. It takes much more effort overall to play good D-1 ball.

Grahan Hatch averaged about 14 a game his senior year and Butler
averaged about 10 a game his senior year and they are at WSU. Nobody questioned whether they should be here to my knowledge.

I'd be interested to get Prince's take on the coach's comments.

"Not ready -- Basketball recruiting nuts can take a deep breath and relax on the future of Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy center Brandon Davis. He is considering WSU, but will not make a decision until the spring.

"We're always late signers here," coach Fletcher Arritt said.

Davis (6-foot-9, 235 pounds) averaged 13.4 points and 10.4 rebounds last season. He needs to do more to impress Arritt.

"He's an all-right player," Arritt said. "He's got to prove himself. He's a big kid, he just doesn't play hard enough."

I Believe Coach Arritt is right on the part about Brandon Having to prove himself, but from what i have seen he does play hard its just hard for people to see that he does because he has a different type of body language. He always looks like he is relaxed, and doesnt show entensity when he is playing hard like other kids do. I will admit, brandon does have his moments when he comes up playing lazy, but once a coach comfronts him about it, he pics it right back up again.
