  • From ESPN "Insiders" Rumors: Where Duke stands with Perry Ellis

UPDATE: According to Aaron Cedeno of Scout.com, 2012 power forward Perry Ellis (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Heights) narrowed his list to six schools in December -- Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, Kentucky, Memphis and Oklahoma -- until Duke recently joined the picture with the hiring of former Sooners coach Jeff Capel.

"Coach Capel and I have known each other for about three years," Ellis told the web site. "Sure, knowing Capel helps but I still have a lot to learn about Duke yet. I have only talked to (Coach Mike Krzyzewski) twice in my life and we are just now getting acquainted. We will just have to wait and see after this summer."

Ellis, who lives in Kansas, may be the Jayhawks' top target in 2012 (per Cedeno) and we believe that could make KU a tough one to beat in the end. Beating Bill Self for a recruit in his own backyard just doesn't happen often.

    • From Rush the Court Blog

Perry on the Blue Devils: “I feel like Duke is a good school. It has a lot of history and [head] coach [Mike] Krzyzewski is one of the best coaches ever.”

Perry on Duke assistant coach Jeff Capel: “We had a good relationship when he was at OU. I really liked him.”

Fonda On how hard Duke is recruiting Perry and whether Perry will add the Blue Devils to his list: “Duke is showing great interest right now. If Duke keeps showing interest they will [be added to his list].”

Fonda On Perry’s relationship with Krzyzewski and Capel: “Perry really likes Capel a lot [because] they have been close for three years. [As for] head coach Mike Krzyzewski, Perry thinks [he] is cool and thinks it is an honor to have him call him and just talk.”

Fonda On who Krzyzewski says Perry reminds him off: “Coach K told Perry that when he watches his video highlights it reminded him of [former Duke star] Grant Hill… I think Perry would fit great.”

Fonda On a timetable for Perry’s decision: “He wants to wait after the summer and then pick five schools for officials visits early fall. He [also] wants to take a visit [to Duke].”

Doesn't look like he will be cutting the list soon. Don't expect that until at least the end of the summer. He, or his mother (can't remember) also said he will take 5 official visits.

        • Ellis decided not to attend this weekend's top 100 NBA camp. Maybe he will be at our elite camp?

May not payoff now, but smart for @LonKruger to give Perry Ellis' little brother Cam tour of OU facilities while at our tourney. #Sooners

                    • Its kind of hard to beat the card that Coach K can play when he says something like "you remind me of Grant Hill." Must be an out of this world experience for Perry. I hope he comes here, but more and more I think he'll choose Duke.

                      • What was that afternoon show with Mike and Mogie in the early 80's? Antoine Carr was a guest on there during his senior year and he said that he chose Wichita State over Duke.

Its recently been said if Duke is recruiting somebody other teams can forget it, unless you are the home team.
