Check this quote from their Rivals site, in reference to last season as Bama finished well below .500: "Actual attendance dropped nearly 38,000 from the previous season to less than 4,000 per game." (See more at: https://alabama.rivals.com/content.a....2Qoy1U4Y.dpuf)

Wow -- less than 4,000 a game average? I don't care how many championships they win in other sports to spoil their fans, that's just mind-boggling. Can you imagine ANY circumstance in which the Shocks drew like that even once? WSU gets 4,000 for a lightly promoted, decidedly unspectacular Shocker Madness scrimmage. Good luck, Dazon. You may need it, whether you play for the Tide, or bounce to UAB in case Bama makes a change, or whatever.

Personally, I'm beyond thrilled that the Shocks got McDuffie's commitment, so in my view things worked out for the best, because I doubt that they'd have taken two at this point. Plus, Alabama kids -- maybe even more than most -- often tend to stay close to home. But I have to believe that Ingram has no real appreciation for what he just missed out on, and for him to accept that kind of support instead (even assuming he sees himself as part of the rebuilding project, as he presumably does) is too bad for him.
Even during the 90s, I do not believe Shocker attendance fell to 4,000. I saw virtually every game. I seem to recall that attendance was usually in the 6-7 thousand range. Of course, JD and water may have blurred my memory.

From someone who somehow stayed sober during the 90's, that's my recollection as well.

The lowest average attendance for a year was 5,528 in 1996. The average over the decade was 7,341. The Shox averaged 6.7 conference wins/yr during that timeframe, only once grabbing more than 8 wins.

The average in the 15 years since is 9,746, and 10.7 conf. wins/yr.

+1, pie. I wished him luck earlier; and as I also said, he may need it -- I hope things work out well for him, and I hope at some point he gets to enjoy playing in front of the kind of home crowd we take for granted.

Is it time to wonder if Gregg, in fact, knows how to count again?

Edit: auto-corrected to 2Gs. Had to fix that, out of respect to 3Gs.

Hell, it's time for two teams.
