  • Here are a couple of paragraphs about Kentucky players from http://blog.syracuse.com/orangebaske...etball_is.html.

While some might dispute the idea that taking college classes for a few months constitutes getting an education, Kentucky has exceeded the NCAA’s academic requirements, despite having 12 undergraduates over three seasons depart for the NBA.

Since 2004, the NCAA has made public every school’s Academic Progress Rate (APR), which purports to measure how well each team stacks up in the classroom over a four-year period. Kentucky’s most recent APR of 974 tied for the best score in the Southeastern Conference.

Make an announcement and get it behind you so you can get some leisure time without constantly looking over your shoulder to see if some media type is there. Good luck young man, now and in the future.
Maybe he'll find himself so exhausted and unable to pick amongst the blue bloods that he'll throw his hands in the air exclaiming "eff ya'll I'm going to play with my bro!"

      • I would rather he go to KU than Kentucky.

I've wondered about this, too. My guess is that Kentucky has a "degree program" that involves taking worthless classes that probably end early in the spring semester, such that they can do a minimum of online work after the season in order to pass, satisfying the NCAA's "progress toward a degree" requirement. Do they even need to declare a major as a freshman? Or does "general studies" count?

          • The players aren't allowed to declare a major until their junior year. Or at least that is how it used to be.

How many players from Kentucky have actually graduated under Cal?

              • Here's the thing... Most schools would love to have these one and done kids, but the bottom line is that this is what the NCAA has created by making the rule and allowing it to happen. Some would never wear a college jersey if the rule wasn't in place to begin with....

                • As I understand it, a school's APR is not hit by a player leaving for the NBA so long as they are in good academic standing when they do so. I could be wrong about that.

                  • I'd rather have a 2 year minimum or let them go straight to the NBA. The one and done is ruining the college game. Some of these guys that declare after one year didn't do squat in college and then don't pan out in the NBA. Look at the guys from Kentucky that are bolting after one year. How much good did they do for the wildcats?

Oh, so all's well as long as they pass Basket Weaving 101.

                        You're correct.

Not trying to be too harsh, but who cares if they flop in the NBA after one year in college? They’re big boys; they don't need or want a year of college; let them face the real world right out of high school. I’m not sure Andrew Wiggins needs one year of college and I’m sure he doesn’t need two. Oh, and I hope Kentucky craps the bed next year with their crib full of ‘Diaper Dandies’.

This one and done rule is an NBA rule/compromise that the players union/NBA owners have to agree on to change. The NCAA may have some input into it but they don't make the rule. This rule helps WSU because if players were allowed to go directly into the NBA, schools like UK would be recruiting/signing more kids lower on recruiting lists. If teams like WSU recruit smart, redshirt appropriately, and build teams for four years, they are often just as good as those who have kids for shorter times. Two years would help WSU less than one and done, and straight to the NBA from H.S would be the worst scenario.

                              • Time to brother up Andrew - lol

Just a post to encourage Andrew Wiggins to come to WSU and brother up! You say why...I say why not? Obviously he is a one and done players by everything I've read. If he goes to Kentucky or KU he'll just be another 5 star of a long list that leaves early to the NBA. At WSU Wiggins would be an icon remembered like Xavier, Carr, Stallworth and others if he helps them back to the final four as the go to guy not to mention playing a year with his brother on a top ten team....priceless memories he won't get at Kentucky!:yahoo:
