Not so today. I know we're all concerned about his long term health, as he and his family most certainly should be.
I won't be surprised if we've seen the last of him for the season. Not predicting mind you, just my thought based on repetitive injuries with today's information. I want the young man to be right. I'm certain he's chomping at the bit to get back out there, but that's what family and doctors are there to protect against.....the perceived invincibility of youth.
My percieived invincibility of youth ended during my first formation flight in flight school. I made an appointment with the Base Legal to make out a will. :)

Maybe there have been some advancements in the surgery used, or maybe there is access to better surgeons now. I have a lot of confidence that the people making these decisions will do a lot of research and be well-informed before any decisions are made. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Not sure that the experience of any Shockernetters or their offspring in bulking up is all that relevant. More relevant would be Austin's gene pool. I recall seeing a picture of his Dad and he definitely wasn't a skinny guy. His brother Spencer who is a Junior at Central Missouri is listed at 6-3, 195. None of that guarantees Austin can bulk up but it might be a bit more revealing that comaprisons to unrelated parties. Austin is not all that skinny in his lower body but he has not had the physical problems that would have prevented him from developing his lower body. Clearly his shoulder injury/surgery history have been a consistent road block to Austin bulding up his upper body.
That said I certainly don't know that just building up his upper body will eliminate the issues he has with his shoulders. Seems like it should, but I don't think there is any guarantee of that.
Who knows maybe the reason for signing SHJ out of Hutch Juco was primarily an insurance policy against Austin being on the shelf or maybe taking a redshirt year.

AR's Shoulder Issues
Last fall after Austin dislocated his shoulder in an early game, there was a considerable amount of discussion about it. At one point, someone posted the fact that there is a way to tighten up the shoulder joint through some means, perhaps exercise, so that it is less vulnerable to future dislocations. I thought that was interestingm, but that was the last I heard about it. It would be interesting if that poster could illuminate us further on the matter.

I remember when Rob Kampman was here, Turgeon was trying to get him to bulk up. They tried everything. Diet (high-prote4in, high calorie) offset by exercise - and nothing worked. I remember Turgeon making a comment that some guys hjust can't bulk up.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

If there is a very high chance that a year off would almost cure this issue, I would totally be for redshirting. I guess he could give it a go and if it looks bad in the first few games, then you could try a medical R.S... risky though. Just never know. I would love 3 full healthy years of this guy.

Could be just me, but I often wonder with an injury like this, is it possible that it's a bad enough injury to sit through a couple of games we should be able to win and get as healthy as possible for IlSU, but also bad enough that if it was the NCAA tourney and it was win or go home, he'd be ready to go if necessary? Or is it bad enough that there's no way in hell he could play regardless of what game it was? I wonder is @ARShocker: is still around and could shed any light on it."You Don't Have to Play a Perfect Game. Your Best is Good Enough."
