I think Austin will probably play again as soon as he's healthy enough, but I wouldn't mind at all if they held him out until the Redbirds come to town. Give him a little extra time to get all the way healed up.

In an ideal world, AR would redshirt his Soph year and spend that time healing and bulking up. Until he gets some meat on those bones, he's going to be in and out of the injured reserves.
My son has AR's exact build. As a matter of fact, they look and play eerily similar. There is no such thing as "bulking up". My son has lifted and trains everyday for the last three years (he's 21) and he's gained weight but no "bulk". He's very strong and toned, but he ain't bulky. AR will never be bulky. He won't look much different than he does now (other than toned up muscles), but he will have the meat he needs to stay healthy.

He would certainly have the chance with SH-Jones coming in and Conner, Daishon, and Landry all returning.

Does your son have access to world class trainers and facilities? Not being facetious, but there are plenty of examples of "skinny" guys that have been able to add quite a bit of muscle/bulk.

I was always a pretty skinny kid. I was 6'2" 150 lbs when I was twenty over the next few years I gained 30 lbs from working out and just natural muscle growth from maturation. There is still hope for Austin and your son!

I'm pretty sure that KR is responsible for the transformation of Captain America

Back in the day, they would simply let Austin rub some dirt on it and get back in there.
Not so today. I know we're all concerned about his long term health, as he and his family most certainly should be.
I won't be surprised if we've seen the last of him for the season. Not predicting mind you, just my thought based on repetitive injuries with today's information. I want the young man to be right. I'm certain he's chomping at the bit to get back out there, but that's what family and doctors are there to protect against.....the perceived invincibility of youth.
