2016 Valley All-Conference Teams

This is not a Valley thing. This happens in every league. They look at where the team was predicted to finish then see who "over achieved" at the end. I mean that's how Gregg won his 2nd COY in the Valley. After loosing Murry, Stutz, Kyles & Ragland WSU was predicted to take a big step back but finished 2nd.

Right but that was the first time it happened on the valley on like ten years. Now that we are on top it happens almost every year

It's unreal when going 51-3 in league games over three years only nets you one COY Award.

This reminds me of the many years where Gene wouldn't win COY even though his teams dominated the league.

I don't necessarily mind Gregg not getting it last year because the exact opposite thing happened in 2013. We lost to Creighton in the last game of the regular season but 3G got the COY award over Chewy because of making it that close after being picked fourth. Not sure what UNI was picked to finish last year, but pushing the race to the last game of the season and to have the season they had was impressive. Because of 2013, I understand 2015.

This year was stupid. Nobody was close. WSU won by 4 games. No excuse for it.

In Hinson's defense, he did coach his team to just 2 more losses than Marshall's team has in the last 3 seasons combined.

Gregg has 25,000 reasons to be pissed at the voters. But he won't acknowledge it, his team will. Guess the voters either 1) want to see Wichita State be the only MVC team in the tourney or 2) are just idiots.

True. But when was the last time a school won 4 out of 5 Champions in the Valley before our Shox? It's been a while, they used to just vote the Coach that won the league because it was someone different nearly every year. After a while voters start to look for something else. Look no further than to "Those we don't speak of" in NE of the state despite their streak their coach has won like maybe 4 COYs.
Just pointing out that I think this is what the award has become not matter the conference.

By his reasoning, Marshall should never win it. I mean, WSU has talent... then again, someone has to coach and recruit that talent, but I guess that doesn't matter. WSU getting judged by the crap teams because they are not themselves a crap team.

I have no problem with Hinson. He must have done something right to improve from 12-21 to 22-9.

He really scheduled up this year with a non-con SOS of 322.

This was exactly my sentiments
When I challenged hefferman on Twitter he said coty should go to the coach who did the most with the least not to the win the most. I laughed because you judge a team on their wins. Plus 3g is the same coach who won national coach of the year in the past but in this league winning 3 championships in a row gets you a handshake. And the valley wonders why we feel slighted and want to leave the conference. Who is bringing all the schools money and making the conference relevant? Wsu who is hated by all the schools and consistently screwed by the valley wsu... #valleylogic

Hefferman's ballot was just so wrong. First, UNI was picked pre-season 3rd, they tied for 4th. Please tell me what screams COY? He wins a couple of great games, then his team under-performs most of the season. Illinois St was picked 4th, they tied for 2nd, essentially one spot up. Had Evansville not imploded late in the season and UNI played worse than picked, IL St would have finished 4th. Nothing to see here. Bradley was picked dead last, they finished next to last. Big whoop. Nobody knew pre-season 7th Drake was going to do so bad.

Not only did WSU finish 1st, they did it by 4 games. That's 4 over IL St and 5 over UNI. For anyone not to have Marshall on their ballot is like putting in the fix. Those that didn't have Marshall at all should have to publicly justify it.
