When Hinson was being introduced as COY, did they remember to thank him for once again helping to drag the rest of the MVC down by playing such an incredibly weak ass NonCon schedule? According to KenPom, of the 351 Div 1 programs, the SIU NonCon SOS ranked 348; worst in the MVC.

SO THANK YOU BARRY HINSON.

Maybe next season you can really put your heart into it and shoot for the very bottom. C'mon Barry, make the MVC proud, drag everybody down even further. Hell who knows, maybe then the MVC will give you two awards.

I think HCGM is coach of the year but I can say that I understand Barry as the choice. Giving SIU their first winning season since 2008, especially when they exceeded expectations in the Valley. I am sure it is tiresome having WSU dominate year after year. Next year is HCGM's award when he wins 4 in a row.

What really bothers me about this is and despite the logic of exceeding expections, back in Marshall's third year and they finished 2nd to UNI after being a play in team the year before, they gave COY to Jacobsen. From what I remember, Jacobsen was returning almost all of the team from the year before that won the Valley. By the logic of voters this year, that shouldn't have earned him a COY.

It was a crime Gregg Marshall did not win the Valley's Coach of the Year Award. I'm still not sure how that happened. The SIU beat writer has caught a lot of guff today for not even having Marshall on his ballot ... which is almost inexcusable.

But here's the real deal - 17 people from outside the SIU circle in the Valley gave Barry Hinson a first-place vote. SEVENTEEN!

So please don't dump all of your dissatisfaction on everybody from Carbondale wearing maroon. The fault for Marshall not winning lies somewhere else.

I want to know who the other goober is that left HCGM off their ballot. We know that Todd Hefferman did, but there is another person that did also. Barry was on two ballots more the 3.3G, not just one. Do we know the identity of the other guy? I haven't seen anything.

Another question, where does the odd vote come from? 41? 4 per valley team from media and admin. = 40. I am sure someone on here knows, but I have never heard.

Coach Hinson's win isn't the biggest supprise. He would have to be one of the top choices. Not having Marshall on you ballot is just wrong.

One of the best posts on the SIU board to put this in perspective.

Congrats to Coach Barry! He exceeded expectations and significantly overachieved with this roster.

Message to Coach Marshall & Son: Congrats on taking your program to a level that 16-2 in conference, 4 games up is no longer good enough to win this award. Welcome to the Bill Self level. Weber, Barnes, and Huggins are the last three winners in the Big 12 yet Kansas finished 1st in each of those years.

I doubt Coach is bothered much either; he and everyone else know who is the best in the league. This doesn't just happen in the Valley.

Also if we aren't leaving this league we need SIU to be good and I will tak any positive sign.

FYI that bonus post you're talking about only includes bonuses accumulated to that point in time. He has a lot more available moving forward as the season develops.

Just to clarify, are there 45 total voters (note 45 1st place votes). I understand that WSU (and each school) has 4 votes that cannot go to their own.

If it is 45 total voters, you minus those 4 for the 41 maximum votes a coach could have received.

I noticed that when you add the columns you 45 1st place votes, 45 2nd place votes, and only 41 3rd place votes. I assume they went to others (see the SIU goof that voted for Wardle). Wow. Just wow.

Also, not only did Marshall not get any vote from 6 voters, Hinson did not get any votes from 4 voters. Both are inexcusable.

Jacobson votes are indefensible, particularly for 1st and 2nd. Pre-season 3rd place, finished tied for 4th (or 5th depending on how you look at it). UNI beat TWO top 25 teams (3 if you want to include WSU) yet lost to 5 teams with RPIs in the 200 and bottom 100 range and finished tied with Barry's SIU team who finished well higher than projected pre-season. Jacobsen had 14 total votes! Total joke and undeserving due to season performance.

Now I know WSU and SIU voters had to pick 3 other coaches to fill their slots, but some could have voted for the other as well.

I still say that each and every voter's ballot should be public to protect the Valley and out any funny business. I'm not complaining about Marshall not winning or Hinson as COY.

The four voters from each school can't vote for their hometown coach. Barry made every ballot. Gregg didn't make two.
