Regarding Zach's last foul. What really irritated me was that the official making the call was not in position to do so. Unless he has X-ray eyes.
In this case, the arc is not at issue (for me). It is a point of reference as to whether Mock was already in position, moving, and who runs into who. At no time was Mock stationary. That by itself it not enough to make a determination, I believe. It is clear he shadowed Fred from outside the FT line. His forward movement/jump was not straight up. He made contact with Fred's side/arm. Had Mock jumped straight up from his start outside the arc, their bodies would have never touched and he would have landed from where he started or further back if the assumption was Fred ran into him and pushed him back. Neither happened. In other words, Fred had him beat.

The swiping of his arm also eliminated the verticality.

Edit: Had Mock done what Brown did, there would have been no foul.

      lololol

Nailed it. Beyond the atrocity that was giving UE the ball after they fouled FVV, even more ridiculous was making that call on the other end 10 seconds later.

Maybe Ron read the Redbird forum, and found out how they all get incensed with HCGM shaking his wristwatch, and thought he'd join in.

Has the band played the "low brass cheer" even once this year during a heated time out? That is the kind of thing we need during time outs to help keep the crowd pumped up.

          • I have attended games with children, who, due their majors, attended other universities. They have both just been appalled at the inability of the production to carry any momentum through time outs. They make specific suggestions and about what worked to keep the crowd going. Not once did they mention a shooting contest by someone who should be wrestling, or texting. In addition, if my children appeared to go to a Shocker game wearing another school's colors, they would get to watch from home. Grow some stones and leave the twits home.

Bless you. In my top 5 all time most annoying things ever...right ahead of straighters.

              • On the topic of things done during time-outs, etc. Does it bother anyone else that the "You Don't Wanna Go To War With The Shocers" chant is happening so early in the second half, even with the outcome still in doubt? To me, it makes us seem cocky (some of which has been earned by our guys), and if I was the other team, it would light a fire under my ass and make me say "Oh hell yes I wanna go to war, and I'm gonna win!" I know it hasn't happened in the last 39 games, but it just seems like a "don't poke the bear" until you know he's dead (don't do the chant until the game's been decided). I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it seems they should be able to play music, do cheers, chants, whatever to keep the crowd excited until the end without inciting the other team.

My co-worker and I said, believed then and still believe today, that playing "War" when Pitino took his next to last timeout in the National Semi Final game was the kiss of death.

While the BELTING out of that song sent shivers down my spine in an 80000 seat arena, I blame that for the loss almost as much as the pass to Orupke. More even.

I felt the same way. Waaaaay too early the other night. And the cheerleaders were awful. I felt bad for them.

                    • Surely someone on here has an in with the band and could tell them to stand down until the game has been decided, or at least mention it. I agree about the cheerleaders. Kelli had to be extremely disappointed with that performance.

They did the other night at the under 8 timeout (or thereabout) when we were up 9. They crowd stayed loud during the TO then when play resumed promptly sat down and it was quiet while Evansville proceeded to go on a 7 or 9 point run to get back in it.

                        • Photos from the Evansville game. Great shots of Zach's big three, and also of Mock laying into Fred at the end of the game with the no foul call. Bench reactions are solid this game too.

                          • Kind of off topic, but I messed around with some RPI numbers on RPIForecast in regards to Evansville and their poor scheduling

Evansville is currently sitting at 12-3 RPI 85, and SOS 257

If they were to drop the 3 games they played against SWAC teams (Alabama St, Miss. Valley St, and Alabama A&M) and add Away buy games with 3 good not great Power 5 teams (I chose Indiana, Cal, and Florida St.) and lose all 3 of those games they would be:

                            9-6, RPI 43, SOS 79.

They would be in contention for an at-large bid, with 6 losses ... Right now they have no chance with 3 losses. On top of that, they would actually probably make money from having 3 away buy games. If they happen to win one of those games (say FSU), they would have a sub 30 RPI.

Could you do the same with SIU? Be interesting to know how they would look as well.

Not sure I like the way they do the formulas but it's exactly why the big conference teams enhance their resumes in conference play. They can lose to each other and continue improving their RPIs and SOS.
