Well it was a chilly morning here in Jersey today. Got into a nice parking spot well early enough before the doors opened and decided to go find some place warm while we waited. Passed by Dino BBQ but it was a bit too early and stumbled into this building caddy-corner to Prudential. Got some Dunkin Donuts in this office building and realized it turned into the Hilton, which then turned out to be the team hotel. Couldn't believe it. Lots of Shocker fans milling around and as the 4 of us ate our food in the downstairs lobby, there goes Lynn and Maggie prancing on by. Lynn is ready and rearing at all times. Seems very fun to be around. They all headed towards their ground transports and we wallowed back to the "Rock". Nice building. Clearly the home of the Devils though.
5 minutes left til tipoff and the lower bowl was maybe 1/4th of the way full. Probably 30% Shocker fans at that point. Great representation of Shocker Nation, embarrassing statement by Seton Hall. It did fill though with a late arriving crowd in the middle sections.
Lots of Shocker fans in Section 7. We were nestled up towards the top. First half was fun. After about 10 minutes, it really felt like we were gonna cruise to a 20 point blowout. Place was like a morgue. Honestly, the CenturyLink Center may have more of an atmosphere than this place. They just don't cheer and definitely don't sustain it, no matter how the announcer pleaded, as he would curiously give a brief play-by-play or nugget every time Seton Hall scored (a little annoying).
The Seton Hall fanbase was cordial though, many saying they couldn't believe we made the trip so far away. Pirate fans loved the club section above us at halftime. Well into the second half too. Seemed like it turned into a social gathering rather than a basketball game. As Seton Hall came back in the 2nd, some bandie 25 year olds started chirping a bit more behind us on the concourse. Still though, mostly everyone else was pretty pleasant. Lynn and a SHU fan got into a small yelling match about what was a foul. The SHU fan ran 10 rows down from his seat to engage with her. I thought that was pretty childish. Lynn didn't back down though. That was funny.
Such a winnable, winnable game. Couldn't believe how close FVV's desperation heave at the end of regulation nearly fell in.
The place got loud at the end, because they knew they escaped with a marquee win with some zebra help. Lots of bandies though. Half of the fans we encountered after they game thought we were ranked. Still though, no ribbing. Good fanbase.
Kinda soured the start of our vacation week. Only temporarily. Gonna spend some time with the in-laws, putz around, head into the city later, and enjoy the holiday. Players represented well and so did the fanbase. Had several people compliment how surprised they were to see how well we traveled. Considering the complete hose job, I thought our fans behaved well. We complained, but weren't assholes about it or anything. And SHU fans knew they were getting an early Christmas present from the officials.
Whitehead is a little *****. He has good game but it is a punk and a thug. The fact that he's done the staredown thing multiple times tells me how undisciplined he is. Too bad.
Oh and the Pirates of the Caribbean theme where everybody does their weird Pirate arm-flapping reminded me of the dumbass Wildcat Wabash Cannonball where it looks like everybody's trying to impregnate the air. Really weird. Oh and help out the flag-barrer guy. I thought he was gonna take out some cheerleaders before he got his bearings together.Deuces Valley.

Rauno needs to go back and petition the NCAA to get his R-shirt back. He isn't ready for Emporia State, let alone D-1 competition. The guy obviously needs to go on a diet consisting of nothing but red meat and high carbs.
Bush, never mind.

I thought maybe Fred would pass out of the lane when he drove but to be fair, there was never more than 2 or 3 seconds left on the shot clock by the time he made those final drives.
Film study will show that Seton Hall played some really tough defense but there were openings our guys failed to take advantage of. It's going to be a tough couple of days of practice.Last edited by Ricardo del Rio; December 20, 2015, 11:20 AM."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

Very disappointing loss to me. How often do we see a game in which both LeFred and Baker were on the floor, WSU jumped out and took command, and then when the other team collected itself and stepped up its intensity and aggressiveness, the Shocks didn't have an answer and lost one they should have won? That just doesn't happen.
Granted, LeFred still isn't fully himself --although his problem today seemed mostly mental, as he stubbornly refused to recognize that the refs weren't going to give him a call on the drive and kept venturing into the trees anyway -- and Grady is a shadow of himself, which proved critical from both the field and foul line late in the game, but still, still. How often do we see the Shocks fail to be the more intense and aggressive team, which is what seemed to happen today?
It's probably going to be a long, long climb back into the rankings now. But the season is only a third over, which leaves plenty of time to win games, and having essentially no margin for error tends to sharpen one's focus wonderfully. So a little less hero ball from LeFred and Ron, a steady recovery by Grady, more stamina from Shaq both physically and mentally, continued improvement by Brown and McDuffie, and more shots from Frankamp (how many times did he turn down an open three early in a possession and pass the ball only to have nothing much come of it?), all of which are possible or even likely; and who knows, maybe even a ride to the rescue from Shamet like Baker's as a redshirt freshman? -- and things can still all work out fine. But it's getting to be time to start taking care of business every game.
Edit: Meanwhile, to their credit, Seton Hall is much better than they were last season. That's a pretty respectable team that will likely win plenty of games.Last edited by WSUwatcher; December 20, 2015, 01:08 AM.

Agreed, the officials didn't make RB and FVV to turn the ball over 10 plus times. The Shox squandered a first half 13 point lead, and then squandered a late 62 - 55 lead. Each of them needs to have a nice, long introspection session so they can wake the freak up and start playing like we know they are capable of.
Let's identify the up hill battle the Shox need to overcome now. A 1-5 record against the RPI top 50. Belonging to the 13th rated conference in the nation, (the FREAKIN' Summit League is three spots ahead of us for Pete's sake!). No inside game/presence whatsoever. IF they win 20 in a row, they finish 25-5 and have an at-large bid locked up. A 24-6 record should do the job too. 23-7 it's 50/50 but 22-8, 21-9 or 20-10 and it's going to take a championship in St. Louis to get the bid. Anyone think we go undefeated or lose just one game the rest of the way? Didn't think so.

We didn't play a great game by any means but Seton Hall is a very talented team and may end up being very good. I'm not sure that I agree with any assessment that says that we played poorly (I do agree that our turnovers were way below our average). Seton Hall may well be the reason that we tied SH (a true road game which are always difficult to win) in regulation and lost an overtime game.

For me...this was a MUST WIN HUGE GAME AT HOME for Seton Hall. They played at a really high level in order to get this win. Life on the road for our beloved SHOCKERS. They got a little home cooking...but more so we gotta give credit for their effort on the victory. Seton Hall came to play and got it done.
Let's get after Nevada and the other one to finish out the OOC schedule.
UNI and Loyola are our MVC obstacles. Get by them...and we'll see a group of young men make a really cool scene this season. Gotta take some bruises and wind chill climbing that mountain. Come early Spring with SHOCKER NATION behind them...watch out world!!!!!!FINAL FOURS:
